Dallas Clark Monsen, beloved husband, father, granddad, brother and friend passed away unexpectedly on August 20th at the age of 78.
He married Susanne Farnsworth in 1971 and shared a lifetime of happy memories in the 53-plus years they were together. They share 2 children, Gavin (Sara) Monsen, Amanda (Ryan) Mertens and 3 granddaughters that were the joy and light of his life. Dallas was preceded in death by his parents; he is survived by his brother Boyd (Linda) Monsen, sister Patricia Monsen, and nephews, Quinn (Yoko) Monsen, Kevin Monsen and niece Kimberly Monsen, as well as a great-niece.
Born in Logan, Utah, to Mattie B and Boyd Boone Monsen on June 24, 1946, Dallas grew up in Layton, and graduated from Davis High - a proud Davis Dart, where he was in the marching band and discovered his love of working on cars while in auto shop. Dallas was very mechanically inclined and picked up the building trades very quickly. He owned his own construction business then went on to become the Public Works Director of Fruit Heights City. When he heard the Olympics were coming to Park City, he made it a goal to become a building inspector for Summit County to be able to inspect various venues, see the action in person and help keep everyone visiting safe. He later became the Building Official for Summit County until his retirement in 2011.
Dallas enjoyed working with his hands, teaching his children about vehicles, life and a good work ethic. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying backpacking and camping with his family, hiking in the mountains especially with his dog Jake. He loved golfing, running, skiing and playing catch with his kids when he was younger. He enjoyed traveling with his family, both around the US and numerous locations around the world, including bucket list places like his all-time favorite cruise through Australia/New Zealand and up to Alaska in the early summer.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, we feel his loss immensely.
An open house and celebration will be held on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at Plated Dreams, 2468 S Highway 89, Woods Cross, Utah. Light refreshments will be served. Casual dress appreciated.
In lieu of flowers please share a happy memory of Dallas with a friend and pay it forward with an act of kindness for someone in need.
