Daniel Alfred Marshall (Coach)

July 26, 1937 — November 17, 2016

Alfred was born in Ogden Utah July 26, 1937 to Daniel Evans and VeraLee Kearl Marshall. He was the youngest of three children. He grew up and attended school in Ogden, but was always looking forward to his summer vacation where he would spend it at the Kearl family ranch in Round Valley / Laketown Utah. He loved the ranch life of putting up hay, taking care of the cattle, and being on the back of a horse. His love for horses and ranching continued throughout his life.
He was part of the second graduating class of the new Ben Lomond High School in Ogden. He went on to serve a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Brazil, South America. As a missionary he had the opportunity to be an interpreter for Elder Spencer W. Kimball. After his mission he attended school at Utah State University, in Logan Utah. He met Ann Snow and they were married, March 20th, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple by Elder Spencer W. Kimball. (later divorced) While attending USU he was called to serve our country in the Army Reserve for a short period of time.  After finishing his college degree in 1963, he accepted a teaching and coaching position at Beaver High School. Beaver became their home.
Our dad had a love for football like no other. He took pride in coaching his team the mighty Beaver Beavers to 8 Utah State Football Championships and eight 2nd place finishes.  He still holds the record as one of the "winningest" coaches in the state. He also took pride in coaching his own two sons in football.  He would be the first to tell you that he couldn't have done it alone without the dedication from the team, the assistant coaches namely Alan Raddon, the parents, the student body and the town.    He also held a State Championship Title in Golf.   He had a memory of every football play and later used those plays to coach his grandson Preston Mitchell and Chandler Bracken when they were playing.   Too say our dad bled Blue was an understatement.  He loved Beaver Sports and BYU which he had the honor to help Coach Lavel Edwards' with his football clinics.   Even after retiring he tried to make as many Beaver High School Activities and BYU football games that his health would allow.
Dad also had a desire to have every student in Beaver High to get their education and to further their education in which he also did by getting a Master's degree at BYU and had worked on his Doctoral degree.   He took a lot of pride when he became the Principal at Beaver High.   He loved his students and faculty.
After leaving Beaver High School, he became the principal at N Summit High School for 3 years and then the Assistant Principal and football coach at Millard High School before retiring.
Dad had a love for politics and was a strong Republican.  He was very good friends with Orin Hatch, Jake Garn and Bob Bennet.
He had a strong testimony of the gospel and served in several callings throughout his life.  He supported the missionaries from our area and always made sure to write a note to them while they served.
Most of all, he was proud of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Loralee Noker and brother Robert Kearl Marshall.  He is survived by his children LeeAnn (Dennis) Dalton, Cydney Bracken, Sharon (Van) Codner, Daniel (Aimee), Darren and Michael (Sammy) Witte, his foreign exchange student German son.  He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the LDS church located 1st W 900 N, Bountiful, UT at 1 PM.  Viewing will be held at the same location from 10:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Burial will be in the Bountiful Cemetery.
