Daniel Boyde Hancock, beloved husband, father, son, brother, friend and mentor, son of Daniel Blakeley and Hannah Irene Stokes Hancock passed away Thursday January 25, 2018 at the age of 77. He was born July 4, 1940. When his children were young they believed the fireworks were to celebrate his birthday.
Dan spent many happy years in Verdeland Park in Layton where riding bikes and playing in the “swamp” were some highlights of his childhood. His high school years were spent in Ogden where in 1958 he graduated from Ben Lomond High School. His younger years were spent exploring and even falling 70 feet from a cliff didn’t keep him from searching for more adventures.
Dan married Claudia Hancock in 1961 then later divorced. He married Valerie Davis, his eternal companion August 5th, 1983 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Dan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities on the ward and stake level. His favorite calling was working with the Scouts where he served for over 20 years. As a Scout leader he helped many young men achieve their Eagle Scout Awards. His favorite place was Camp New Fork where he spent many summers and his birthdays building unforgettable memories.
His love of nature took him on many adventures to the mountains and deserts. Dan could be found in a convertible, tinkering with trains, cars or teaching a group of strapping young boys about living wild. He was on the Morgan County Council, serving as council chair for 7 years. His greatest joy was his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Valerie and his children: Danny (Christine) Hancock, Richard Hancock, Nancy Hancock Anderson, Kristy (Shane) Bingham, Lance (Jennifer) Hancock, and Jared (Katie) Hancock; sister, Jennie Lynne (R. Taylor) Wilson; 18 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Connie Naisbitt and Judy Hancock.
He truly loved much and cared deeply. He will be greatly missed.
