Daniel Dee Miller

August 16, 1949 — June 4, 2017

Daniel Dee Miller, age 67, returned to his Father in Heaven on June 4, 2017 at his home in Kaysville, Utah, after a lengthy battle with cancer.  Dan was born on August 16, 1949, in Driggs, Idaho, the seventh son of Fred and Guelda Johnson Miller.  From an early age Dan had a great love for his heritage and his home.  He traveled far and wide throughout his life, but no matter where he lived or visited, his heart was in Teton Valley.

Dan loved life and had many interests and hobbies.  As a child, he learned to love the outdoors, with hiking, hunting, skiing and other scout activities among his favorites.  When asked what he would most like to do out of doors, his answer would always be to ride his motorcycles up the beautiful canyons of Teton Valley.  He participated in high school football, wrestling and track and excelled in academics.  He graduated from Ricks College and the University of Utah with a degree in Accounting.  Throughout his life, Dan was a voracious reader and knew something about most any topic.  He became the “go-to” guy when someone in the family had a question.  He was a pilot of small aircraft and looked forward to flying over the Tetons after retirement.

Dan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served an LDS mission to the Philippines and developed a great love for the people there, continuing to correspond with several of them until the end of his life.  Dan enjoyed serving in many capacities in the church throughout his life, particularly with the Young Men.

From his childhood Dan was drawn to the military and was gifted in strategy.  He served for 34 years in the Army National Guard/Reserves, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel.  He participated in the Iraqi Freedom conflict and earned the Bronze Star for his contribution.  He always set a high bar of patriotism and love of country for his family and friends to follow.  His civilian career as an auditor for the Air Force was a perfect fit for Dan as he had a natural ability for problem solving and efficiency.  He and his family had the opportunity to live in Germany from 1990-1993 during his career as an auditor and he enjoyed his time there.

Dan married Angela Kay Ford in the Salt Lake Temple on September 9, 1977.  Though Dan was busy with two careers, church callings and his many other interests, his concern and love for Angie was always uppermost in his heart.  He loved and was proud of his four boys and encouraged them to always serve their God and country.  Dan loved planning activities with his grandchildren and had made many plans for future activities with them.  He planned to build a cabin on his beloved farm in Cedron and watch the grandchildren put on “plays” out in the barn.  They all adored their grandpa and look forward to one day sitting in the pumpkin patch with him, wrapped in their Halloween quilts, listening to his stories while looking up at the full moon.

Dan is survived by his wife, Angie, of Kaysville, Utah; sons, Chris (Jane), Malta; Darin (Sveta), Idaho Falls, Idaho; Paul (Amy), Maumelle, Arkansas; and Todd (Jess), St. George, Utah, as well as his 12 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers, David (Inge), Pocatello, Idaho; Ronald (BarDee), American Falls, Idaho; Larry (Elwayna), Bountiful, Utah; Ralph (Jan) and Philip (Joanne), both of Salt Lake City, Utah and Lewis (Jeannette), of Sandy, Utah, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 201 S. 600 E., Kaysville, Utah on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.  A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington, Utah on Friday, June 9 from 6-8 p.m. and at the Kaysville East Stake Center on Saturday, June 10 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services.  Interment will be at the Cedron Cemetery in Teton Valley, Idaho.
