Danny Wayne Dye

April 1, 1943 — September 22, 2021

Danny Wayne Dye, 78, died peacefully surrounded by his family on September 22, 2021. He was born April 1, 1943 in Nampa, Idaho, to Donald and Wanda Dye. Danny was married to Linda Summers in 1964. They had two children, Deanna Dye and Frank Dye. He was later divorced.

In 1975, Danny married the love of his life, Nancy J. Grace (Wilson). He also gained three sons, Scott Wilson, Mark Wilson, and Bryon Wilson. For almost 40 years, Danny and Nancy were true, loving partners in life. In 1981 they moved to Burbank, Washington and lived there for over 25 years. Danny retired after many years working for Americold as a refrigeration engineer. Danny and Nancy moved to Layton, Utah in 2009 to be near family.

Danny loved any kind of sport, especially fishing.  He spent many years on lakes and rivers in search of the perfect catch. He loved to watch a good professional or college game with friends and family (sometimes turning down the volume so he wasn’t annoyed with the announcers). He was a master at many card games and almost always won. He loved his yard and garden – always trying to grow the perfect tomato or cantaloupe. After he retired, he became an incredible cook alongside Nancy and always had ingredients on hand to bake a great fruit pie.

Danny was a loyal and caring friend to so many people in his life.  He had dear, lifelong friends whom he kept in contact with year after year through weekly phone calls. He could also make new friends everywhere – at the local senior center, his doctors’ offices, and around his neighborhood.

Most of all, family was the center of his life – he loved them deeply. He was wise, loving, compassionate, never in a hurry, and willing to help in any way he could. With only a single look, he conveyed his love. Danny lost Nancy in 2014, but he was always and forever in love with her. He always talked about her and some of his last words were his desire to “go see Nancy now.” He talked lovingly of his parents and his sister Sharron, who was his best friend.

Along with Deanna and Frank, he welcomed fatherhood again when he embraced Scott, Mark, and Bryon as his sons. He loved and guided his kids, and helped them grow into strong, compassionate, confident adults. He was so proud of all of his grandchildren and their accomplishments, and he adored his great-grandchildren even when they were louder than the game on tv.

Survivors include his children, son Frank (Felicity) Dye and daughter Deanna Dye of Medical Lake Washington, Scott (Jeanine) Wilson of Farmington, Utah and Bryon (Gayane) Wilson of Salt Lake City Utah; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and sister Sharron (Mike) Deroin of Eagle, Idaho. He is predeceased by his wife Nancy, his parents, Don and Wanda Dye, and his son, Mark Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington, Utah on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 3:00 pm. Family and friends may attend an informal reception starting at 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service.
