Darlene Garlick

May 30, 1935 — November 1, 2013

Our sweet Mother, Darlene Janice Garlick, slipped peacefully into the night at her home, surrounded by those who loved her dearly on November 1, 2013. She quickly finished her final chapter of this mortal experience, and though we hoped there would be more chapters, we all recognize and are grateful for a life well lived and many precious moments. Darlene Janice’s legacy is one of service. To her loving husband of 61 years, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, friends, social clubs, neighbors and her dedication to her callings for the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Much of Janice’s life story was written with her best friend and eternal companion, Wendell. Their love story began when they spied each other at school. Mom thought he was the most handsome boy in all of Carbon County. And Dad said, “Mom, was a real looker.” They have been inseparable ever since. They were married December 17, 1952, later solemnizing their vow in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27, 1956. Her greatest joy and calling was being a wife, companion, mother and grandmother. Janice has been a long time resident of Centerville, and she spent her early years in Emery and Carbon Counties. She served faithfully in her many callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She, along with her faithful companion have served as temple workers in the Bountiful Temple, and were later called to serve in the Baguio, Phillippines Mission in which they were entrusted to run the mission office. Most recently she was the secretary for a Chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, a member of a quilting club, book club and never missed a day at the gym with her Silver Sneaker friends. She was a talented artist who shared her gifts with many. She made and created beautiful clothing, wedding dresses, crocheted baby blankets, quilts (and there are many) monkeys, humanitarian projects and decor which we have all been blessed with and display throughout our homes.
Our Mother is having the most joyous reunion with her daughter, Darlene Delia and son, John Tracy, her grandson Brandon J, her parents Ira and Charlotte and her in-laws, Joseph and Alta, brothers Waymond and Lavan and her sister Bernice; and Elvis, of course, and many, many more -all of whom preceded her in this life. She is survived by her noble-knight and husband, Wendell Vearl Garlick, her handsome, faithful sons- Kevin (Jodee), Michael (Julie), Brent (Cindi), Paul (Cindy), Troy (Trina) – and her beautiful daughters Lynda, and Kristine (Von). 20 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Her sisters Arvonna, Karla, her brothers James, Ron and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may honor her and greet the family at a viewing held Tuesday, November 5 from 6-8 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St. in Bountiful or Wednesday, November 6 from 9:30-10:30 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3rd Ward Building 900 S 400 E, Centerville. A service will be held following at 11 AM. Interment at the Centerville Cemetery entrusted to Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary.
