Darold Astle Carling

June 15, 1931 — January 3, 2022

Darold Astle Carling, 90, living in Gaffney, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Darold was born in Providence, Utah. He was the son of the late George Isaac Carling and Clara Pearl Astle Carling.  Darold was raised on a farm and enjoyed working on his own family farm as well as working for neighboring farms. After graduating from South Cache High school, he was called to serve in the Eastern States Mission. Darold did not serve this mission, but instead enlisted in the U. S. Air Force to support our country during the Korean War.  He was primarily stationed at Nellis Air Base in Las Vegas, NV, where his duties were to support flights. One of his main duties was to maintain the tugs that serviced and towed the jets.  This opportunity piqued his interest to study diesel mechanics and electronics and led to his employment with the U. S. Postal Service. Darold was a mechanic for the Postal Service, before retiring after 32 years of service at the Salt Lake City office. He married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 10, 1966.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many different callings throughout his life.  His interests included traveling, gardening and sports; both viewing and participating in especially basketball.

Surviving are three sons, Duane Carling (Christine) of Farmington, Connecticut, Daren Carling (Amy) of Gaffney, South Carolina and Shawn Carling (Summer) of Gaffney, South Carolina; two daughters, Dawna Reandeau (John) of Anoka, Minnesota and Shauri Kagie (Chris) of West Bountiful, Utah; a brother, Lee Carling (Kathy) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; two sisters, Lola Savage (Dee) of Sunset, Utah and Eva Johnston (James) of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, Theodore and Stella Carling; Emily, Robert, Caroline, Josiah, Sarah, Aric, Nicholas, Lillian and Henry Carling; Kathleen, Isaac, Francis, Thomas, Gregory, Joseph and Mark Reandeau; Clara and Jack Kagie; Sawyer, Silvie, Siler, Saxon and Soren Carling.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Dean Carling, Ivan Carling, Ray Carling, Blaine Carling and Grant Carling and a sister, Linda Johnson.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the West Bountiful 1st Ward building, 311 North 800 West, West Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 9:00 to 9:45 AM prior to services.  A viewing will also be held Friday, January 14, 2022, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Interment will be in the Providence City Cemetery, with a Graveside service to be held at 2:00 PM.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary & Crematory Facebook page and on this obituary page. Streaming will begin 10-15 minutes prior to services.
