In loving memory of Darrell M. Bearnson, who passed away on February 26, 2024, at the age of 86. He was born on January 19, 1938, in Mohrland, Utah. Darrell was the son of James Monroe Bearnson and Gladys Morgan and grew up in the small town of Hiawatha. While growing up he enjoyed playing basketball, running track, and hunting. He excelled in basketball at Carbon High School and later received a scholarship to play ball at the College of Eastern Utah. He joined the United States Air Force in 1961 and while serving in Florida he met and married the love of his life, Peggy, in January of 1964. Two months later they were stationed in Germany for one year, after which they returned to California, where he was hired on with American Airlines as a refueler. He worked for American Airlines for 30 years and finished his career as an Operational Supervisor in Salt Lake City. After retirement, he was hired on with Davis School District as a school bus driver and later became a trainer for the district’s newly hired drivers.
Big D was adored and loved by everyone that knew him. He was one of the purest examples of being Christ-like. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.
In his last years he put up a valiant fight against Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, of 60 years, and his 5 children; Alfred (Kara) Bearnson-Layton, UT, Angie (Andy) Thompson-Farmington, UT, Julie Bearnson-Kaysville, UT, Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Bearnson-Syracuse, UT, and Kathy Bearnson-Kaysville, UT. He was also a cherished Grandfather of 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Main Street Chapel, at 500 South Main Street, Kaysville, UT. There will be a viewing prior held from 9:30-10:30am. Also, friends and family may visit Friday, March 1, 2024 between 6 and 8 pm at Russon Mortuary, 1941 N. Main Street, Farmington, UT.
The service will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page below, and will appear 10-15 minutes prior to the service at 11am.
Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
