Darrell (Dee) C Hansen

May 22, 1928 — May 17, 2017

"Dee" was born May 22, 1928 in Logan, Utah.  He passed away Wednesday morning, May 17, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  Dee was the son of Vergil E. and Maude Coombs Hansen. He grew up in Logan, Utah where he attended Whittier Elementary, Logan Junior High and graduated from the Logan High School. Following graduation Dee attended Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) where he became interested in aeronautics.  He served an honorable LDS mission in Mexico from 1948-1950 and then returned to pursue an education at the University of Utah.  Dee married Jone Armatage October 21, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They started their life together in Bountiful, Utah moving to Idaho Falls, Murray and finally settled back in Bountiful, Utah in 1974.

Dee was an active member of the LDS church and served in several positions including High Priest Group Leader and  in the Stake Sunday School Presidency.   He retired after working 36 years in sales for General Motors, but continued to share his talents with a new opportunity in Boise, Idaho where he worked at the General Motors Auto Auction and the Idaho Auto Auction. In his spare time Dee enjoyed working on “The Farm” in Grace, Idaho where he raised wheat and barley. Dee learned the love and gratification that comes from farming after spending time as a boy on the farm with his Grandfather Hansen and chose to follow in his footsteps. Dee also loved to tinker and learned to be a mechanic and could build, fix and repair almost anything.

Dee learned to fly and purchased several planes over the years.  He and his wife Jone spent a lot of time soaring the skies seeing the western states. They made many good friends who also liked to fly.  Dee and Jone also made the time to enjoy the outdoors while camping in their motor home during the summer months and snowmobiling in the winter.

Over the years Jone and Dee enjoyed the companionship of their dogs Georgie, Lady, Cindy, and Freeway. They treated these pets like family and were included in all their adventures.

Dee was preceded in death by both parents and a brother-in-law, John H. Allen, Ronald Armatage (brother-in-law), Verla Nye Armatage (sister in law), Ross Armatage (brother-in-law), Max Stoor (brother-in-law) and Velma Armatage Stoor (sister-in-law). He is survived by his wife, Jone Armatage Hansen and JoAnne H. Allen (sister) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dee’s journey on earth has been completed. He’s received a new mission call taking him to a new place where he will be able to enjoy time with many family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Our Father in Heaven has new opportunities for him to share his ability to have compassion for others, along with his knowledge and talents.  Even though he is no longer with us he leaves behind lasting memories of service and kindness that he showed to all of us.

A viewing will be held at 10 am Friday, May 26, 2017 with funeral services following at 11 am at the Russon Brothers Mortuary (295 N. Main Street) in Bountiful, Utah.  Burial will be at the Montpelier, Idaho Cemetery (500 Cemetery Road) Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10 am.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the caregivers at Avalon Care Center and those from Bristol Hospice who were so kind and helpful. They also appreciate the neighbors and the members of the Bountiful North Canyon 2nd ward and the LOL’s (Little old Ladies) for their friendship, love and support over the years.   In lieu of flowers please make donations to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or Primary Children’s Hospital.
