Biography

Darrell Lloyd Parkin, passed away peacefully Sept 3rd, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born April 09, 1933 in Bountiful Utah , son of Lloyd W. and Ruth B. Parkin. Graduated from Davis High School in 1951 and continued his education at the University of Utah graduating in education later received his administrative degree. He also received a masters degree in physical education from the University of Illinois. He played tennis on the University of Utah tennis team where he received the award of All American Academic Athlete. Upon graduation from the U he entered the Marine Corps in 1958, where he served as an Officer for 23 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel he was also on the Marine Corp Tennis Team. Darrell was also in education as a teacher, coach, counselor and vice principal serving in the Davis County School District for 28 years.
Darrell served a mission in the Eastern States Mission from 1953-1955. Married his sweetheart Merilyn Reese on Sept 27, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Upon retirement they served a mission in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission at the visitor center in Laie. After returning back to Bountiful they served as Service Missionaries in the Military Relations Division at the Church Office Building for 8 years. Darrell Loved the Church and had many callings, he served as a Bishop, was in the High Counsel and a Stake Clerk, he also taught and served in many other organizations in his ward. He was also a Temple Ordinance worker alongside his wife, a calling he cherished.
Darrell had many loves which included: Camping and hiking with his family, hunting, gardening, fishing, tennis, rafting the Green River, more fishing, and more tennis. He also loved traveling the world and taking cruises with his wife. Most recently they traveled to Israel and Jordan which they had been looking forward to for some time. He loved family get togethers and ice cream but, his favorite was his wives homemade pies. He also loved his hunting dogs which were his constant companions around the yard and on his many hunting excursions.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Lakeview Hospital for their kind and loving care of Darrell and his wife, Merilyn.
Darrell leaves behind his Wife Merilyn, Daughters, Pam Seifert (Russell) and Paige Adams (Paul) and Sons Andrew Parkin, Maurice Redhouse (Terri), and Cassidy Redhouse, also his sister Dorothy Waite (Sherm). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Parents and his Son Gregory Darrell Parkin.
There will be a viewing held on Sunday Sept 7th from 6-8 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main Bountiful, Utah. There will also be a viewing Monday morning Sept 8th from 10:45-11:45 in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 South Main, where the funeral will be held at 12:00 noon.
Interment in the Bountiful City Cemetery.

There will be a viewing held on Sunday Sept 7th from 6-8 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main Bountiful, Utah. There will also be a viewing Monday morning Sept 8th from 10:45-11:45 in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 51 South Main, where the funeral will be held at 12:00 noon. Interment in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
