Heaven gained the world’s greatest husband, father, brother, coach, friend and so much more. Darrin David Buttle returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 23, 2020.
Born on April 30, 1965, Darrin was raised and enjoyed a great childhood in San Jose, California with his wonderful family and the best church youth group. Darrin went on to faithfully serve the Lord in the Florida Tampa Mission. After his mission, Darrin went to Ricks College and then on to BYU where he graduated with a degree in sports business management. Darrin was able to move to St. George, Utah and fulfill his dream of opening his own sporting goods store; he owned and ran Play It Again Sports for 17 years where he met many more great friends.
In St. George, he found the love of his life. Darrin and Jenny became best friends and after nine short days of dating he asked her to marry him; Jenny said yes and never regretted it for a second. On November 20, 1998 they were sealed together forever in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with three of the most amazing boys Jared, Drew, and Caleb.
His family was his pride and joy and he loved them fiercely. Through example Darrin taught his boys the meaning of honor, love and respect, compassion for others, to serve always, and so much more. Darrin always thought of others first. He didn’t need to be reminded to be kind, he just was. His great sense of humor always made people laugh and his smile lit up a room.
Darrin was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his whole life. He loved the Lord and was a perfect example of Christlike love. He shared his testimony of the gospel through his words as well as his actions. He took his callings seriously and served with his whole heart. Darrin served the Lord in many callings, and the ones he enjoyed most were working with the youth.
Another one of Darrin’s greatest joys was working with the youth in his community. If he wasn’t coaching one of his sons on the field, he could be found umpiring a game or taking his scouts on a camp out. He touched the lives of many youth in his community.
Darrin had a love of all sports, especially anything BYU. It began with little league baseball, continued with high school football and badminton, and then on to intramurals
at Ricks College where he was named Intramural Athlete of the Year. However, Darrin’s favorite sport was whichever sport he was coaching his boys in.
Darrin leaves behind his biggest fan club and greatest treasures: his remarkable wife, Jenny, and phenomenal sons, Jared Willem Buttle (currently serving in the Madagascar Antananarivo Mission), Drew Gerry Buttle, and Caleb Darrin Buttle. He also leaves behind his Mother, Sally Magleby Buttle, his Mother-in-law Rachel VanderToolen, his siblings Geralynn (John) West, Wendy (Charles) Naselli, Kevin Buttle, Karie (Ron) Cheney, Kirk (Kelly) Buttle, Shaleen (Joe) Wilding, Janalee (Malcolm) Wood, his in laws George Gillette, Bruce (Jean) VanderToolen, David (Lisa) VanderToolen, Gerald (Janice) VanderToolen, Mary (Charlie) Treft, Jeff (Sandra) VanderToolen, John (Meisha) VanderToolen, many nieces and nephews who adore him, and many more family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lester Gerald Buttle, his father-in-law, William Bruce VanderToolen, Sr., and many loved ones who were waiting to embrace him.
In lieu of flowers, a donation account has been set up at any America First Credit Union under Darrin Buttle Memorial Fund to help with funeral costs.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in the Rowland Way Chapel, 610 Rowland Way, Centerville Utah.
