Biography

Lynn “Darryl” Anderson, age 68, beloved husband of Sherrill Jean Yates Anderson, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away at St. Mark’s Hospital on Monday, January 21, 2013 from causes incident to a stroke he suffered in September, 2012.

Darryl was born in Price, Utah to Lynn Wallace and Elva Elaine Wood Anderson. Darryl grew up in the Huntington Park area of Southern California. He attended Gage Jr. High and graduated from Huntington Park High School. Darryl met Sherrill in junior high at age 12. At 16 they started dating during their junior year of high school and continued throughout their senior year. After graduation Darryl attended California State College in Northridge while Sherrill attended Brigham Young University. They were both miserable being separated so Darryl transferred to BYU at the half-way mark of his first semester.

Darryl and Sherrill dated at BYU during their freshman and sophomore years. Darryl served a 27-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Northern Mexico from August 1964 to November, 1966. They were married in January, 1967 in the Los Angeles Temple. They began their married life in Downey, California. He graduated from California State College at Long Beach with a degree in psychology. He served in an Army artillery unit in Vietnam during 1969-1970 and was awarded the Bronze Star.

They bought their first home in Long Beach and Darryl went to work first as a truck driver for Coca Cola, then as an Intake Worker for the State of California Welfare Department. In 1975 they moved to Anaheim Hills, California, and Darryl worked as a pharmaceutical salesman while attending and graduating from Western State College of Law in Fullerton.

Darryl and Sherrill moved to Bountiful, Utah in June, 1980 so their sons could be near their grandparents. Darryl spent the next 30 years in sales, retiring in 2010. Darryl also served faithfully in many positions as a member of the Mueller Park 2nd Ward. When he wasn’t helping to coach one of his boys’ sports teams he could be in the stands cheering them on.

Darryl is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years and best friend for over 50 years, his 3 sons Aaron (Lauralyn) Anderson, Enoch, Utah; Adam (Kimberlee) Anderson, Farmington, Utah; and Alan (Shari) Anderson, Centerville, Utah. He is survived by 10 grandchildren (5 boys & 5 girls) Aaron & Lauralyn’s Tyler, Jordyn, Jesilyn, Joseph and Jonah; Adam & Kim’s Jacob, Andru and Abby; and Alan & Shari’s Aubrey and Brielle. He is also survived by his two brothers, Fred (Kathleen) Anderson, Sunnyside, Washington; Brian (Karen) Anderson, Salem, Utah; and his sisters-in-law, Dalice Yates, Fallon, Nevada and Carol Coleman, Bountiful, Utah. Darryl is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful on Thursday, January 24th from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 25th at the Mueller Park Second Ward, 1825 South 800 East, Bountiful 84010. Another viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. just prior to the funeral services which will begin at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank the staff in the ICU, on the Fifth Floor, on the Third Floor, those in the Pastoral Services, and especially the staff in the Acute Rehab Center at St. Mark’s Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Darryl initially in September 2012 and during his recent stay. The family would also like to thank the staff at Lakeview Hospital on January 13th and the staff at Life Care Center in Bountiful for their tender care while he was there from October, 2012 through January 13th.

Another viewing will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. just prior to the funeral services which will begin at 11:00 a.m.
