Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather,
Darwin William Christenson died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. He was born May 20, 1929, in Heyburn, Idaho, to William Burr and Minnie Neona Christenson.
Darwin served a mission to Finland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Following his mission, he was called to serve his country in the Korean War, where he was a line foreman. On June 9, 1961, he married his sweetheart, Francine Fraser, in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Together, they served as missionaries in the Stockholm Sweden Temple. He valued his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served faithfully in many callings. One of his most treasured callings was that of a home teacher. He later went on to serve as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples for many years.
Darwin received a Bachelor's degree from Utah State University and a Master's degree from Brigham Young University. He taught wood shop at East High School in Salt Lake City for 29 years, where he shared his passion for woodworking with hundreds of students. In his later years he enjoyed painting, lapidary, and woodcarving.
Darwin is survived by his wife Francine of 56 years and five children, Denise and Kelly Hurst, Blackfoot Idaho; Sherrie Eloff, Sandy Utah; Bruce Christenson, Centerville Utah; Neil and Amy Christenson, Roy Utah; Michelle and Mike Haggerty, Riverdale Utah;14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by five sisters and three brothers – Naoma Zemke, Gladys Harrison, LaVaughn Craythorn, Lareta Shaw, Norma Jeppesen, Larry Christenson, Marvin Christenson and Norvel Christenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Delbert Dean.
Funeral services will be held at the Wood Cross Third Ward Chapel. 1450 South 350 West Bountiful, Utah Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Steve Fultz officiating. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:00 AM-10:45 AM.
