Daryl George Budd

December 30, 1946 — December 19, 2019

Daryl George Budd, age 72, passed away in his sleep on December 19, 2019. His beloved wife Bonnie Budd, eight children, and thirty-four grandchildren are comforted as they remember his legacy of faith, service, and fun. Daryl is now free of any physical limitations from the stroke he suffered 10 years ago and is joyfully reunited with those who preceded him in death: father, George Budd; mother, Mary Budd; brother, Steven Budd; grandson, Joshua Daryl Brown; and many other dear family and friends.

Daryl, born December 30, 1946, was the second of seven children. Daryl is survived by his siblings Mary Jo Rasmusson (Harvey), Don Budd (Darcy), Annette Cloward, Barry Budd (Jenny), and JanaLee Anderson (Mark). Daryl had an active childhood in Clearfield, Utah and loved the outdoors. He was very involved in the The Boy Scouts of America and scouting became a lifelong pursuit. He was an Eagle Scout and later received the Silver Beaver Award.

At 19 years old Daryl served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in London, England. Soon after he returned, Daryl caught Bonnie’s eye and she invited him to carpool to Weber State University (WSU). They fell in love talking on the frequent drives to school and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 24, 1971. They soon welcomed their first child and seven more children followed in close succession over the next 10 years. They raised their family in a little blue house in Bountiful, Utah. Daryl was a good man and lived a life of devotion to God, his wife, eight children and their spouses, and thirty-four grandchildren. His family loves him with a love that cannot end and are deeply grateful for his tender care.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in botany from WSU, Daryl pursued a career as a seminary teacher in the Church Education System for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In the first years of teaching he completed his Masters Degree at Brigham Young University in Instructional Design. He taught seminary for over 30 years in secondary schools throughout Davis County, Utah. He finished his career after four years at the Institute of Religion in Pasadena, California. Upon his retirement he and Bonnie returned to Bountiful. He served as a bishop twice in the Bountiful 26th ward and a counselor in the Stake Presidency in Bountiful, Utah. Daryl recently finished his book, “What Isaiah Says to Me” to share with others his love for Isaiah’s words. Family members held the first copy in their hands two days after he passed away. Daryl had a way of making the gospel of Jesus Christ real for everyone. He blessed many with his testimony as a gifted teacher.

Daryl shared so many of his talents and hobbies with others. He loved to camp, backpack, hike, fly fish, canoe, invent camping gadgets, and especially dutch oven cook. Every summer he took his family on epic backpacking and camping trips, where he often cooked gourmet dutch oven meals. He was well known for his skill with dutch ovens and cooked for family reunions, treks, camps, and church functions. Even after his stroke, Daryl’s love for dutch oven cooking endured. He wrote a camping inventions book as well as cookbooks for the dutch oven, reflector oven, and campfire.

Daryl had a contagious smile and quick wit. His dry sense of humor and skilled storytelling brought so much laughter to his friends and loved ones. He had a way of drawing everyone into the fun and extended the hand of friendship to all. Ultimately, Daryl G. Budd is a man who loved the Lord and invited others to do the same.

Daryl is survived by his wife Bonnie Gardner Budd and his eight children: Primila Bullough (Tim), Jenny Larsen (Fred), Zadok Budd (Kimberly), Jacob Budd (Elizabeth), Brigham Budd (Yadira), Emma Qoroya (Esala), Hannah Morkel (Tarquin), and Laura Riddle (Jacob). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Wyatt, Bryce, Cassie, Jason (Emma), Jared, Ben, Lydia, Gabe, Elisabeth, Kathryn, Evan, Jane, Charles, Daniel, Amy, Brigham, Gabriela, Aaron, Samantha, Matthew, Megan, Jacob, Isabella, Summer, Leora, Finn, Amelia, Grace, Alea, Lacy, Juliet, and Marshall.
