David Henry Cook of West Point, Utah, a loving husband, father, grandfather (19) and great-grandfather (26). He was reunited with his parents, siblings and many other family and friends on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. He passed peacefully at the Beehive Home of Syracuse facility.
David was born January 18, 1924 in West Point, Utah to Amos Roy Cook Sr. and Elizabeth Golightly Williams. He was born in the home his parents built and resided there for some 50 years.
He was raised on the family farm with four siblings while inheriting a lifelong trait as a hard worker and lover of animals. If it wasn’t assisting with the crops of sugar beets, tomatoes and peas, he could be found hauling hay or milking five to seven cows each day. David loved horses but none as much as “Tarzan” whom he cherished and called “his best horse friend”. For most of his life he enjoyed raising and showing performance Quarter and Appaloosa horses.
He graduated from Davis High School in 1942. After graduation he worked at the Smith Canning Co. and seasonally for the Utah State Crop Inspection Unit. Later he was employed at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in the spring of 1986 from the maintenance division, engineering services with 36 years of service. David also owned and operated a family farm during his working years at Hill Field.
David married LaRene Read Duncan in May of 1965 in Layton. That marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He is the father of two children by a previous marriage. They are Robert Cook (Cheryl), Salt Lake City and Janet Cook, Hawaii. His marriage to LaRene came with four children whom he raised. They are Keith Duncan (Colette), Kaysville; Jill Fleming (Chad), West Point; Scott Duncan, Mountain Green and Elder Kevin Duncan (Nancy), Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2019, at the West Point 18th Ward Chapel located at 2865 West 800 North, West Point, Utah at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing on Thursday, July 25, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the West Point 18th Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the West Point City Cemetery.
