David Rothwell Johnson

David Rothwell Johnson, 76, passed away from kidney disease at home in Centerville, Utah, surrounded by loved ones on December 25, 2024. He was born April 5, 1948, to David Rollins Johnson Jr and Betty Lou Brown in Davenport, Iowa, the first of 3 children. He attended Viewmont High School in 1966 and completed his schooling at West High School in 1967. 

David married Robyn Rae Sommers June 28, 1966, and later divorced May 1, 1975. From this union they welcomed two daughters: Brenda Lou Johnson and Camie Marie Johnson. David married Victoria E Vickers April 7, 1978, in Colorado where they raised their son Greg. David and Victoria later divorced. 

David dedicated his career to the United States Postal Service in Colorado, where he was a devoted leader and Union Representative for 25 years. He had a deep passion for restoring classic cars. To name a few of his projects; 1956 Grey/White Chevy Bel Air, 1957 Chevy Station Wagon, 1967 Red/Black Chevy Chevelle he called "Lizzy Belle" and a 1973 Orange/White Chevy Pick-up. His daughter earned the name of "Camshaft", as she enjoyed being by his side in the garage alongside him. He also enjoyed drag racing, fishing, camping, and hunting with family and friends all while making everlasting memories. 

David was preceded in death by his grandparents Rothwell Edwin Brown and Camille Hansen, and step grandmother Mary Irene Hogland, his parents David Rollins Johnson Jr and Betty Lou Brown Johnson, stepmother Berniece Winter Johnson, brother William Kris Johnson, daughter Brenda Lou Johnson Gold, and son-in-law Ron Todd Bennion.

David is survived by his sister Deborah (LeRoy) Peck, sister-in-law Jonnie Nengas Johnson, daughter Camie Marie Johnson Bennion, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews, friends of the USPS, and the American Legion. 

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation for the loving care provided by Mikayla, Chenoa, and Elisha with Inspiration Home Health & Hospice and the nurses and staff at the DaVita Farmington Bay Dialysis Center. A special heartfelt thank you to his sister Deborah and brother-in-law LeRoy and their children for their selfless sacrifices, love and gentle care they extended to David. 

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring 2025, details forthcoming. His final resting place will be at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah.
