David Martin Ranks (74) died at his home of natural causes on August 19, 2019. David was born May 10, 1945 in Calais, Maine to John Ellis Ranks and Laura Baker Jackman. In his early childhood, David lived in the home of his grandparents in Calais, Maine along with his mother, aunt, and cousin while his father was serving in the Navy in WWII. David met the love of his life, Georgann (Jann) at Brigham Young University while he was working on his PhD in Clinical Psychology. They were married on March 31, 1972 in Provo, UT then sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. He would later go on to get a post doctorate and diplomate in neuropsychology.
David served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his doctorate he served in the Air Force. This service gave him the opportunity to live all across the United States sharing his smile, his love, and his contagious laughter with everyone he met.
David was known as a bright intellectual with broad interests; he taught himself three languages, kept up to date with scientific research in various fields, and was an avid reader. He was talented in culinary arts, cross stitch and needlework, and photography. He also loved sailing, hiking, camping, and traveling.
He was a doting father, who always made time for his children and instilled in them a love for nature as he shared his outdoor adventures with them. He was also a child at heart and took time to get involved in his grandchildren’s hobbies, listen to their thoughts, and read them stories.
A viewing will be held on August 30, from 9:30 am to 10:30am with services to follow at 11:00 am. The viewing and services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church building located at 1509 W 1500 S Woods Cross, UT. Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetary…..
He leaves his wife, Georgann (Nelson) as well as his children, Danielle Kidd (Richard), Christianne Crump (Steven), Eric Ranks (Maureen), and Renee Nicole Crabtree (Brent) and 10 grandchildren.
