David Elmer Muirbrook, 73, of Farmington, Utah, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with various types of cancer. David was born on November 23, 1950, to Mildred Holley Muirbrook and Elmer Charles Muirbrook. He spent the last 44 years of his life in Farmington, Utah, where he was a cherished member of the community.
David married the love of his life, Pamela Nelsen Muirbrook, on September 14, 1973, in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were blessed with four sons: Michael (Laura) Muirbrook of Kaysville; Richard (Julie) Muirbrook of Syracuse; Samuel (Erika) Muirbrook of Kaysville; and James (Ali) Muirbrook of Farmington. David was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren: Megan (David) Gutierrez, Jaxon Muirbrook, Annie Muirbrook, Joseph Muirbrook, Tyler Muirbrook, Kamryn Muirbrook, Cache Muirbrook, Noah Muirbrook, Avi Muirbrook, Marley Muirbrook, Lily Muirbrook, Miles Muirbrook, Sophie Muirbrook, and Bodhi Muirbrook. He is also survived by his two sisters, Carolyn (Tom) Eddy of Honeyville, and Barbara (Michael) Mayhue of Layton, as well as his sister-in-law Sharon Muirbrook and father-in-law Kirk Nelsen. Coming off the bench as always Jeffrey Beck Stewart.
David was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mildred, his brother Lynn Muirbrook, and mother-in-law Joan Nelsen.
David was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous leadership roles, including as Bishop of the beloved Farmington 5th Ward. He and his wife Pam were especially proud of their work serving hand in hand as leaders of the YCSM Service Mission. As pioneers of the program, they helped introduce this special calling to many young people in the area.
David grew up in Ogden, Utah, and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1969, where he excelled both academically and athletically. Despite multiple scholarship offers for academics, football, and track, he chose to play basketball and compete in track at what was then known as Weber College (now Weber State University). It was at Weber College that he met his sweetheart Pam.
After graduating, David began his career with A&K Railroad Materials, where he ran international sales for over 30 years until his retirement.
In his retirement, he found joy at the Davis County Golf Course, where he spent so much time that he eventually began working there. He cherished the friendships he made on the golf course. Even in his last fight with cancer, his health goal was always to make it back to the golf course, where “Big Dave” could spend time with his friends.
David's greatest passion in life was his family. He will be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his loved ones. Additionally, he will be fondly remembered by hundreds of youth in the Farmington area as a mentor and youth coach, spending countless hours coaching his boys' teams in basketball, football, and baseball. In 2002 he founded the Dave Muirbrook Invitational at the Rock Court where he won the coveted MVP award many times.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many medical professionals who fought alongside David against cancer for the past six years. They also send their thoughts and prayers to all who are battling this terrible disease.
