David Ward Mumford passed away Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012 as the result of a heart attack. He was deeply loved by many, and will be sorely missed. Dave was born in Ogden, Utah on December 16, 1945 to Dorothy Howell and William Ward Mumford, M.D. He spent his youth in Pocatello, ID and graduated from Pocatello High in 1964. As a child, he enjoyed spending time riding horses with his cousins on his Uncle’s ranch. He cherished his two younger brothers, and they became his lifelong best friends. He served as a missionary in the North British Mission from 1966 to 1968. He then attended BYU, where he met the love of his life, Margaret Kesterson. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple in 1969. He raised his five children with devotion and always loved spending time with his family. His family will remember him for his inspiration to become great individuals, his dedication to church service, and the time and service he spent the past ten years caring for his aging parents. He spent his career in engineering, with the last twenty-five years at Hill Air Force Base. He had a lifelong interest in aviation, a passion for radio-controlled model airplanes, and valued the camaraderie of his flying buddies. He made many friends in local hobby clubs. Dave particularly enjoyed the time he and Margaret spent as Cub Scout leaders, eventually earning their Woodbadge awards together. He was a joy to be around and deeply cared about those he knew.
He is survived by his wife Margaret; his children: Rhonda Perkes (Darrin), Russell (Liz), Doug, Melissa Pace (Michael), April Checketts (Jake); his ten grandchildren; his mother Dorothy, who he adored; and his brothers Lee and John (Sandy).
