Dr. David Arthur Rawling 1947-2012
Dave Rawling, devoted father and physician, passed away in his home on April 17, 2012 at the age of 64, after an eighteen month battle with cancer.
Dave was born June 16, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a dedicated scholar and traveled to Japan as a foreign exchange student while in high school. After earning his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Albion College, Dave went on to attend medical school at the University of Chicago; he then traveled to Texas, Iowa, and Indiana for his medical training. Eventually Dave settled in Salt Lake City, where he could pursue his love of both medicine and nature. He practiced at the University of Utah and VA Hospitals, and had his own practice, Wasatch Cardiology Consultants, for over 12 years. Beloved by patients and respected by peers and colleagues, Dave was a caring and compassionate physician. He enjoyed his role as a mentor and teacher, helping new doctors learn the practice of cardiology. Dave was also a lover of the outdoors and spent much of his free time hiking trails in the canyons near his home or camping in the Utah deserts. He was an avid nature photographer, amassing a large collection of photos from his various outings. A proud father with eclectic interests, he cared deeply about his family and enjoyed sharing his love of music, from Bob Wills to the Beatles, and movies, from Bedazzled to James Bond, with his kids.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fred, and his mother, Neva. He is survived by his three children, Derek (Deserae) Rawling, David C. Rawling, Angela Rawling, and his two step children, Andy Domire and Kyle Domire.
A gathering for friends and family will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Online guestbook available at russonmortuary.com
