BOUNTIFUL – David Ray Bailey (Ray), born June 14, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on August 4, 2022 peacefully in his own bed surrounded by family due to natural causes after battling a fight with dementia.
Ray was the second son born of Earl Bailey and Edna Guymon. He spent his childhood upbringing in the city of Bountiful with his two siblings Edgel Bailey, who passed away in 2017, and Dale Bailey who survives him. Ray has always been a very active person who enjoyed playing softball, boating, golfing, billiards, darts, hunting, fishing, but most importantly bowling with his parents and brothers while growing up. Ray’s family quickly became the powerhouse bowling frenzy in the area and even formed their own team called the “Bailey Bombers.” Bowling was a lifestyle for Ray throughout his life. In addition, Ray was a season ticket holder at the University of Utah football games and an avid Denver Broncos football fan.
Ray is a 1962 graduate from Bountiful High School and attended Weber State College in Ogden. Shortly after school, he joined the U.S. Army and was trained to serve as a crewman in field artillery gun or howitzer units and artillery combat vehicles. After completing his training in August 1965, he was stationed to serve in Germany and was honorably discharged in July 1970.
Ray’s first marriage was to Barbara Eldredge and after their divorce, he married Carol Cleverly. Between both marriages Ray had 3 children, sons David Bailey and Danny Bailey, and daughter Tammi (Bailey) Bombard. Ray is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Ray was transferred by his employer, Associated Food Stores, to Billings Montana in which he lived for several years. Being away from his family was difficult for Ray, so he transferred back to Layton Utah where he eventually retired after 50 years of service with Associated Foods and was able to spend all of his time around family. Family and giving service to others was very important to Ray. He would volunteer himself at any chance he could get in order to help someone else and he taught service to everyone through his own example.
Funeral services will be held at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main St, Bountiful, Utah, on Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Viewing time will be held at 12:45 – 1:45 PM for friends and family. Interment will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
