David Rollins Johnson

April 25, 1925 — March 20, 2017

David Rollins Johnson, Jr., our beloved father, and loving gramps passed away 20 Mar 2017 peacefully at home. Born April 25, 1925 in Twin Falls, Idaho to David Rollins Johnson, Sr. and Sarah Helen Fulmer.

He received orders to stand ready to report for duty without pay on 22 Apr 1943 (about 30 days before High School Graduation (later compensated for).  23 Apr 1943 received call for active duty and report to Navy Recruiting Station, Boise, Idaho.  Upon being found physically qualified 28 Apr 1943, he reported for active duty at the US Naval Training Station Farragut, Idaho, where he spent 1 year 4 months and received advancement to the rank of Quartermaster 2nd class.  Served on the USS Yorktown (The Fighting Lady) till the end of WWII.

Later met and married Betty Lou Johnson 19 Jun 1946 in Idaho Falls Temple.  He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic School in Davenport, Iowa.  Later became an Architectural Engineer, working several places but ending up last in Denver Colorado building schools.  Retired in Sun City West, AZ.  Betty died 7 Jan 1993.  Later married Bernice Mary Winter 4 Oct 1994.  In 2014 he moved to Centerville, Utah to live with his daughter and to be closer to his grandchildren.

David was gentle and very patriotic.  He loved hunting and fishing in his earlier years.

He is survived by two children; David Rothwell Johnson (Colorado), Deborah Lou (LeRoy) Peck, and Jonnie Johnson;  8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son William Kris Johnson, wife, Betty Lou Brown, and wife, Bernice Winter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the Parrish Heights Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 610 North Rowland Way (100 East), Centerville, Utah.  Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 east Lakeview Dr., Bountiful Utah.  Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com.
