David Emanuel Thomas died peacefully at his home on November 6, 2010, after meeting the challenges of ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease with optimism and faith. After being diagnosed with ALS, David composed the following obituary. I was born 20 June 1943 in Casper, Wyoming, to Parker Emanuel and Wilhelmine Heiss Thomas. I was the last of six children. Delano, Charmaine (deceased), Yale, Nora (deceased), and Darla ( deceased). I began elementary school in Casper, Wyoming, and moved to Graybull, Wyoming, until I completed third grade. The family moved to Salt Lake City in the fall of 1952 where I attended Wasatch Elementary and Bryant Jr. high. I moved to Woods Cross/ Bountiful in 1959 where I attended my sophomore year at Bountiful high. I moved back to Salt Lake City in 1960 and attended Highland high and graduated in 1961. I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the North British England area from 1962-64. When I returned, I completed two years of college. I met and married my wife, Kay Dunford, in May 1966. I was drafted into the United States Army and re-enlisted for three years, serving in Germany during the Viet Nam War era. Our son, Clinton was born in Heidelberg, and our second and third children, Jacqueline and Rebecca were born in Salt Lake City. Returning from the Army, I helped manage the family pipe and steel business and also drove diesel truck, logging over 1 million miles in travel through 48 states. After an operation in 1978, I applied for my Real Estate license and began my new career. In 1985 I became a broker and opened up the Apartment Brokerage, changing the name to The Real Estate Brokerage in 1990. This company continues to function at the present time. I also owned and operated The Salt Lake Voice Exchange until 2007. I have faithfully served in the church all my life and have been a Scout Master, Young Mens President, Sunday School Teacher, Ward Mission Leader, Ward Clerk, and first and second Counselor in the Bishopric. I have enjoyed a full and rich life with my dear wife Kay, my three children and their spouses and our grandchildren. Clint & Lori Thomas (Jacob and Amanda), Brigg and Jackie Lewis (Andrew, Kaylyn, Brandon, Nicole), Aaron and Rebecca Larson, ( Elizabeth, Stephen, Melissa, Thomas, Sarah). We are all sealed together as a family. I have a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His love for us, and hope that my family remains faithful in His Gospel. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12, 2010 at noon in the North Salt Lake Stake Center 900 South Eagle Pointe Drive. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful or at 10:30am Friday at the Stake Center. Interment at Salt Lake Cemetery.
