1978 Cleadus 2024

David Richard Woodbury

August 25, 1978 — December 13, 2024

Cleadus Woodbury lived life to the fullest and blessed the lives of everyone who knew him. We are heartbroken that he had to leave this world on December 13, 2024, after suffering brain damage due to a seizure.

David Richard Woodbury was born on August 25, 1978, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Bruce and Nancy Spencer Woodbury. He was the fourth of five children, following Kim, Jon and Scot, with Jessica joining the family three years later. As a young boy, David got the nickname of Cleadus and it just stuck. Almost everyone called him Cleadus and the unusual name fit his fun personality.

Cleadus married Lisa Ann Bodily in 2003 and they were best friends. Their daughter Grace Ann was born in 2006, followed by Jane Frances in 2010 and Max Cleadus in 2013. They lived in Bountiful in the home built by his great-grandfather. They enjoyed updating the house to fit their family and hosting summer barbecues in the beautiful yard.

Cleadus adored his kids and loved being a dad. He always prioritized spending time with his family and making memories together. Every time there was a school holiday or a bye week for the Utah football team, he wanted to go on a trip. He loved going to Southern Utah and the national parks, Island Park, Disneyland, Florida, camping and on family cruises. His family called him the Ambassador of Fun because he brought energy and laughter to every activity.

Cleadus graduated from Woods Cross High School in 1996 and the University of Utah in 2004. He worked for the University of Utah Athletics Department ticket office for 27 years, with the last 2 years focusing on concerts at Rice-Eccles Stadium. He was the fourth generation of his family to work at the U and was a true Utah man. Everyone knew to call Cleadus when they needed tickets and he always went out of his way to help everyone. From players and coaches to wealthy donors to young sports fans, he treated each person with kindness and respect. He loved his job and always involved his kids in his work, taking them to games and proudly introducing them to everyone he worked with.

Cleadus had a gift for bringing people together and he made everyone feel special and loved. He had a close group of longtime friends who had many adventures together. Cleadus enjoyed going to concerts, snowmobiling, motorcycling, hiking, watching sports, playing games and eating good food. He was absolutely hilarious and kept everyone laughing with his quick wit and goofy sense of humor. He was a man without guile and had a heart full of goodness.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cleadus served as a missionary in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1997 to 1999. He enjoyed working with the youth, teaching children in Primary and serving in the bishopric and high council. His desire to follow Jesus Christ shone through everything he did, most especially when he donated a kidney to his father in 2009. That selfless act gave his dad 10 more years of life and taught all of us more about the Savior's Atonement. His final act of love was to donate his heart, liver, pancreas cells, tissues and remaining kidney. Multiple families received their Christmas miracles thanks to Cleadus and his family is grateful that there will still be parts of Cleadus blessing many lives.

Cleadus leaves behind his wife, children, mother, siblings, in-laws and 25 nieces and nephews - a big, loving family who will miss him terribly. He was welcomed on the other side by his father and mother-in-law, Maxine Bodily. His family is grateful that through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we will see Cleadus again and be together forever.
