Dean Porter Callister

December 4, 1931 — December 6, 2016

    Dean passed away December 6, 2016 at the age of 85.  He was born December 4, 1931 in Salt Lake City to Donald Davis and Mary Ethel Whitehead Callister.  Dean was the youngest of seven children. Graduated from West High School, served in the LDS Great Lakes Mission from 1951 to 1953.  He married Dawn L. Mitchell on February 17, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple and left to serve his county at Fort Lewis, Washington one month later.
    Dean and Dawn are the parents of seven children, 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way), and 1 gr gr grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and one grandson, Todd C. Clifford.  He is survived by his wife, two sons, Reid (Kelli) and Aaron (Jan) Callister, daughters, Colleen (David) Clifford, Janet (Brit) McConkie, Lori (Steve) Tuttle, Bonnie (Brad) Hardy and Melissa Callister, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  
    Dean was a SLC fire fighter for 28 years, Fire Marshall at the U of U for 8 years  and owned his own refrigeration and A/C company.  He and Dawn served an LDS mission in the St. George Visitors' Center and historical sites and the Centerville Dry Pack Cannery.  He served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples for over 15 years. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or repair and spent the better part of one year helping his daughter and son-in-law build a home in Porterville, Utah.  He loved to whistle, to read Louis LaMour and watch western movies.  He loved horses and dogs, having rescued several dogs and one cat.
    A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 11th at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the Val Verda 4th Ward, 2633 South 50 West, Bountiful at 11:00, with a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45  prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
    Heartfelt thanks to the Eaglewood paramedics and to the ER and Critical Care staff at the University of Utah Medical Center.
