Deana Lynn Freemyer Cheal

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Deana Lynn Freemyer Cheal at the age of 69, born on December 26, 1954. Deana grew up in Colorado, the oldest daughter of Joleen and David Freemyer. She was one of five siblings and shared a close bond with her sisters Debra, Kathy, Dana and her brother Allen, who will miss her dearly.

Deana graduated from Weber State University and carried her lifelong curiosity and interest in learning into everything she did.

She was a devoted wife of Fred Cheal, whom she met on a boating trip to Lake Powell. They married in 1981 and had many adventures together, starting with expanding their Logan based family construction business to Vernal and later to Kaysville, Utah. They built the business together with dedication and hard work alongside Fred’s brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Nancy Cheal, and his parents, Joyce and Lynn Cheal, which now operates in 12 states across the U.S. They shared the joy of raising their children—Garrett (Kim), Brett (Lindsey), David (Jess), and Lizzy (Cole)—and created a close-knit family that brought them great pride and happiness. Deana cherished being a grandmother to Nathan, Reese, Elliott, Oliver, Eva, and Seraphina, and she never missed a chance to support and celebrate her family.

Deana was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her faith guided her throughout her life. She served a proselyting mission in Arcadia, California, from 1976 to 1977, where she shared her beliefs and built strong spiritual connections with those she ministered to. Later, she accepted a mission assignment at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 2015 to 2019. There, she welcomed visitors from around the world, sharing her faith, Utah’s history, and the state’s unique culture. Through both missions, Deana connected deeply with people and with God, forming bonds that enriched her life and the lives of those she touched.

Deana made friends wherever she went and maintained a large circle of close, meaningful relationships. She had an infectious laugh that always brightened the room. She enjoyed traveling with friends, creating wonderful memories and sharing meaningful experiences both near and far.

Deana had many interests and talents, including crocheting, singing in choirs, family history, art, scripture study, cooking, baking, swimming and sewing. She especially loved long drives, Diet Coke, and a good romantic comedy. Deana loved creating handmade blankets for her children and grandchildren, which remain as cherished reminders of her love. Deana enjoyed years of traveling and camping with her family, from exploring the U.S. in their RV to visiting Europe. She also had a talent for playing the piano, sharing music in her home and at church.

She had a giving spirit and was always there to help her loved ones, especially during times of illness or hardship. She provided steady care and comfort whenever it was needed and was a constant source of strength for those around her.

She loved Christmas, pouring her heart into making the season special for her family and friends. Her home during the holidays was filled with warmth, tradition, and joy. She looked forward to setting up her magical Christmas village, which was a treasured part of her family’s celebrations. Her family will feel her absence deeply this year.

Deana’s family will miss her immensely. She was a firm believer that families are eternal and that no matter what, they stick together. Though her presence here is gone, we take comfort in the hope of being reunited with her one day, as the bonds of family go beyond this life.

Funeral Services will be held on December 14, 2024, at 11:00am in the Angel Park Chapel, 205 S. Angel St., Kaysville, UT, where family and friends can attend a viewing from 9:30- 10:30am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Kaysville Cemetery under the direction of Russon Mortuary. We invite all friends and family to join us for a luncheon held at the same chapel following the graveside services at 2:00pm, where we can gather to share fond memories of our beloved Deana.

Deana’s legacy of kindness, strength, and joy will live on in the lives of her family and friends. She will always be in our hearts.
