Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend Mary “Deanna” Beck Brown passed away May 9th, 2024, in Layton, Utah at the age of 82. Deanna was born August 13, 1941, in American Fork, Utah to Leland and Verland Healey Beck. She was the sixth of eight children with six sisters and one brother.
Deanna loved growing up in Alpine, Utah. She described it as a small town with dirt roads and no sidewalks, lots of tall trees, open fields, and old homes. One of her favorite things to do was swing for hours on a hammock her Dad had put up between the old garage and their big weeping willow tree. She spent time in the summers shelling peas, snapping beans, and husking corn for canning. She also spent time picking apples in her Dad’s apple orchard and learning to drive the tractor.
Deanna graduated American Fork High School in 1959. During her school years she participated in many extracurricular activities like Student Council, Pep Club, school newspaper, yearbook staff, Senior Class Secretary, and sang as part of a trio for many school and church functions. If there was something going on-Deanna was there!
Deanna married Russell Allyn Pack in 1959. They had three children together and later divorced. Deanna met her sweetheart Kenneth Henry Brown, and they married in 1970 and had one child together. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1987. They worked hard to blend two families and ten children together in their home in Centerville, Utah where they resided for over 50 years.
Deanna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society. She served two missions with her Sweetheart Ken. The first in the Samoa Apia Mission 1995-1997, the second in the Illinois, Nauvoo Mission 2000-2002. They also served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful, Utah Temple for several years in 2004.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents Leland and Verland Beck, her husband Kenneth Henry Brown, Mardica Pack (daughter), Rea Carlton (sister), Cleo Shepherd (sister), Ross Beck (brother), Kathleen Brown (sister), ReNae Keetch (sister), Steve Berthold (son in law), and Jack Walton (son in law). Deanna is survived by LaRene Drew(sister), Cheryl Walker(sister). Children: Susan (Gary) Ogzewalla, Barbara Madsen, Jeffery (Kathy) Brown, Marla Walton, Melanie Berthold, Lawrence Brown, Tani Pack (Carl) Downing, Jaren Pack, Cheri (Brooks) Anderson, 18 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to all those at Sunridge Assisted Living who lovingly and patiently took care of our Mom over these last several months. So many of you have become like family. Mary, Terri, and Jakob: Thank You for the many tender mercies.
Mom, Thank You for your loving example of what a Mother should be and for not giving up when times got hard. We will miss you dearly but are so happy you are dancing with Dad again in heaven.
