Debra Ann Carlson Lang, 63, of Kaysville, Utah passed away at her home on April 16, 2019 after a quick battle with cancer. She was born on March 17, 1956 in Moab, Utah to Glen Martin and Nila Albrecht Carlson. She was the ninth child born into their loving family of 12 children.
Debbie loved growing up in Moab, walking to the swimming pool every hot summer day and doing chores around their farm. When her family moved to Orem, Utah, she became involved in the marching band and was a member of the Tigerettes, graduating from Orem High School. She attended BYU earning her degree in Home Economics Education and went on to teach for 32 years at Viewmont High School. Her love for and understanding of children coupled with her ability to plan and organize made her an excellent teacher. As much as she loved her career, she frequently reminded her family that “my most important job will always be that of a mother.”
Debbie married Douglas Jay Lang on July 11, 1980 in the Salt Lake Temple. She raised 4 children and has 7 grandchildren but really she was a grandma to all. She had the gift of making each child feel special and loved and influenced their lives for good as a mother, teacher, neighbor, aunt, and friend. Her world revolved around her family and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she most often served the Primary children or played the piano/organ and most recently enjoyed her sewing projects in the Bountiful Temple. She was a woman abounding in charity and good works.
Debbie loved to sew, cook, play piano, make memories with her family and she loved being a grandma! You could often find her with a grandkid on her lap, playing cards at the table, eating a popsicle on the front porch or holding a pair of pants to hem. Although cancer had taken over her body, she continued to cheerfully take care of and serve others. It was in her selfless nature.
Debbie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Doug, her four children: Dixie (Nate) Packer, Denise, Dyan (Barry) Hill, and Derek; seven grandchildren: Maddie, Ryan, Ellie, Blake, Jackson, Brooklyn, and Kamri; as well as her siblings: DeEtte Carter, Glenda Nordfelt, Dick (Vickey) Carlson, Margo (Ken) Harward, Jenette (Gil) Savage, Kendal (Arlene) Carlson, Fred (Charlene) Carlson, Wendy (Kent) Mortensen, Kerry (Paul) Mansfield, and Rob (Lisa) Carlson. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol Sue (Frank) Prows, and brother-in-law Dennis Nordfelt.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gardens Chapel, 9 West 550 South, Kaysville, Utah. A viewing will be held Sunday, April 21, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Russon Mortuary, 1941 North Main, Farmington and at the church on Monday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to service. Burial will be in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
Special thanks to Elevation Home Health and Hospice for the loving care provided the last few weeks of her life and to her many angels and ministers in the Kaysville 14th Ward.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Missionary fund.
