Dee Packard 1917 – 2009
Our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and brother passed away peacefully at his home on June 12, 2009 after a lingering illness. He was born April 7, 1917 in Hacke, Alberta, Canada. He was the oldest of 17 children of Forrest LeRoy and Esther Carter Packard. He graduated from Boise High School and attended the University of Idaho. He served in the California Mission where he met his wife Ivalue Vera Larson. They were married on April 7, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. After 60 years of marriage she passed away on January 6, 2002. He married Beth Talbot Speight for time in the Bountiful Temple on April 12, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received an honorable discharge. When he came home after working with his father for a short time he went into home construction. He owned Packard Builders Company. He also owned Packard Lumber Company. He later became a real estate broker and owned Packard Real Estate Company. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including Elders Quorum President, President of the Seventy, Stake Missionary, Bishop’s Counselor and he served on the Stake High Council. He served as an ordinance worker in both the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples and served as a tour guide on Temple Square. He also served in the Family History Library for many years. He was secretary of the High Priests Quorum until the time of his death. His hobbies included genealogy, woodworking, printing a family newsletter, and photography. He had a pilot’s license and owned several airplanes and he loved to travel. He is survived by his wife Beth and children Janet Ralph Miller, Luedeen John Andrew, Dennis Gaylene Packard, Randy Packard, and Diane Rick Bean. He had 23 grand children and 41 great grandchildren. He also had 3 stepchildren, Linda Dan Nielson, Mark Yumi Speight, and Brian Lisa Speight. He had 5 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ivalue, daughter Sharon, granddaughter Jody Andrew, his parents and four brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Park Stake Center, 760 North 1200 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday, June 18 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and at the church prior to the service from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. Interment – Centerville City Cemetery.
