Dennis Vance Chamberlain

Dennis Vance Chamberlain passed away on August 1, 2024 from complications due to Dementia and Leukemia.

 Dennis was born June 29, 1940 in Ogden, Utah to Vance Chamberlain and Rubie Williams. Dennis grew up in Old North Ogden as part of the Barker Quality Dairy Farm. Dennis’ father Vance passed away on July 4, 1944. His mother married Verle Newman Barker in 1945. Dennis with his brother and younger sisters were sealed to Verle Barker and Rubie Chamberlain in the Logan Temple.

 Dennis graduated from the Old Weber High School on 12th and Washington in Ogden, Utah in 1959. He later received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State College in 1966. He then received his Masters of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1975. He also attended Utah State University and did Graduate work at the University of Utah.

 Dennis retired from Utah State Government in 1997 after 30 years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Vocational Evaluator, Disability Claims Examiner and Disability Hearing Officer. He worked to help disabled people improve their functional abilities and lives.

 Prior to his retirement from State Government in 1984, Dennis also attended the University of the Pacific - School of Law in Sacramento, California and completed requirements to become a Certified Disability Hearing Officer. He then determined in official disability hearings whether a person’s Social Security Disability benefits should continue or cease.

 Following retirement from Utah State Government, Dennis ran his own Social Security Disability Advocacy Business where he successfully assisted hundreds of individuals who were fighting the red tape machine to win and obtain their entitled Social Security Disability Benefits often at the third appellate level by a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge.

 On July 19, 1965 Dennis married the love of his life, Jean Andersen. They were married for time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. Jean passed away on February 16, 2014. Dennis and Jean lived in the Ogden area for several years until his employment with Utah State Government took him to Salt Lake City in the early 1970’s, at which time they moved to Centerville, then Bountiful and finally North Salt Lake City in Davis County. Upon Dennis’ retirement they moved to Roy in 2005.

 Dennis was active in the LDS Church. He served a 2 ½ year mission to Brazil in the early 1960’s. He was a Branch President in two different cities while a missionary in Brazil. 

 He was a Melchizedek Priesthood Seventy for over 30 years and served five Stake Missions and brought many converts into the Church. He also taught the children in Primary. His favorite calling was in the Nursery with the little children. He adored them and they loved him. He and Jean also enjoyed working in their Ward Libraries in the Bountiful and North Salt Lake Wards. For several years he and Jean served as LDS Employment Missionaries in their Roy Stake where they assisted numerous folks find sustainable employment to support themselves and their families.

 While living in Bountiful, Dennis served over two years as a Temple Ordinance Worker at the Salt Lake Temple. He really enjoyed that calling in Heavenly Father’s Holy House doing work for both the living and the dead. 

 Besides being a Sunday School Teacher for several years, Dennis was a Counselor and Sunday School Superintendent for several years in the Country Meadows Ward in Roy, Utah.

 Following his retirement Dennis volunteered his time and talents with Adult Probation and Parole, the Ogden Union Station with Jean and Jean’s mother Erma Andersen. Finally, Dennis was called to be in the LDS Branch Presidency of the Peach Tree Nursing Home in Roy. Jean was also called as the Relief Society Secretary at Peach Tree at the same time. Dennis was also a volunteer for several years for the Roy City Police Department under the direction of the Chief of Police of Roy.

 Dennis and Jean have five surviving children. Sonya (Chris) Balling, Lori (Matt) Grotepas, Scott Chamberlain, Cindy (Tom) Lambert and Jason (Chanel) Chamberlain. They have 26 beautiful grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

 Dennis is also survived by his brother Robert Lee (Marianne) Chamberlain of Farmington, Linda (Dave) Brown of North Ogden, Karen (Mark) Koncar of Alpine, Denise Barker of North Ogden and Karla Porter of North Ogden. 

 At Dennis’ request there was no public viewing or funeral services. He requested a private graveside service for family and close friends which was held at the Bountiful City Cemetery where Dennis was buried next to his dear sweet wife, Jean.
