Dennis Eggett

Biography

Dennis Roger Eggett-husband, father, our beloved Old Yak Hunter-returned to the Great Hunting Grounds of the North on February 2, 2013 after a prolonged bout with several illnesses.
Born on May 25, 1945 to Joseph O. Eggett Sr. and Mildred Brown Eggett, the youngest of seven children, Dennis spent his childhood playing with his brother along the uncharted wilderness of the Bountiful bench. Dennis was among the first graduates of Bountiful High before serving an LDS mission to the Cumorah (New York) mission. During pageant season he played King Noah and faithfully put Abinadi to death six nights a week.
He graduated from BYU in the first class of their newly formed Computer Science department back in the days when punch cards were still cool. After a brief stint at MSC, Dennis found his home working for the Corporation of the President for the LDS church. During his tenure with the church Dennis developed some of the first computer programs for tracking membership data, became a project manager in the ICS department, and rolled out a new program with computer vendors to get local units new computers on a regular basis.
After a seven-year courtship, Dennis married the love of his life, Dianne Johnson, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of one son, Darren, who remains extremely grateful his parents finally got their act together and tied the knot.
Dennis loved the Boy Scouts of America, serving 15 years in the local unit and district, twice receiving the Stone Award for the Stone Creek District. He graduated from the Wood Badge program for scout leaders and, in 2001, received the Silver Beaver award for service to youth. He was Amateur Radio operator KC7OS and organized the 2nd world convention for the Mercury Amateur Radio Association, a group of HAM operators associated with the LDS church who, in times of emergency, got communications into and out of disaster areas.
A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N. Main in Bountiful on Friday, February 8 from 6-8 PM. A second viewing will be held Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Canyon Park Ward building (1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive) prior to the 1 PM funeral service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in Dennis’s name to either the Perpetual Education Fund or the National Kidney Foundation.
We love and miss you Dad. The Littlest Yak of the Pack promises to keep your spot at the campfire warm until you return. I just hope we can keep him from eating your share of the beans-that never turns out well.
