Dennis Holter Hansen, 92, passed away July 11, 2017 in Bountiful, Utah from causes incident to age.
Dennis was born March 21, 1925 in Ogden, Utah. He was the third child of John and Ellen Amalie Holter Hansen. Most of his life was spent in the Salt Lake City area. He grew up playing baseball, basketball and attending movies each week at the neighborhood theater. While at South High School he met Colleen Bibee. They corresponded throughout his military deployment during World War II and were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 14, 1947. They would have celebrated 70 years together this summer.
In the Army he served as a wireman and a gun crewman in the light artillery during the Italian Campaign. After being discharged, he studied at the University of Utah for just a short time. But it was long enough to engrain a solid loyalty to the institution. During his career, he worked for Utah Power and Light, the U.S. Postal Service and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This was supplemented with part-time work at schools, grocery stores and the newspaper circulation department.
Though never one to seek the spotlight or aspire to lofty positions, Dennis proved himself a faithful, hard worker. In Church he epitomized the council to "lift where you stand." His service included stints in the Cub Scouts, Elders Quorum, Sunday School and High Priests Group. He was an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple for over 10 years.
Dennis is survived by his wife and three children; Steven (Sharene) Hansen, Linda Hansen, and Richard (Tracy) Hansen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Royal John Hansen), sister (Anna Hansen), and grandson (Steven Merrick Hansen).
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 am at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing is scheduled from 10:00 to 10:45 am that same day at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
