Dennis Leon Hicks, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 13, 2015, surrounded by his family.
Dennis was born August 9, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Nathan and Nancy (Freshwater) Hicks. He attended West High in Salt Lake City and on September 17, 1954 married former Clara Kay Ramsey. He was sealed to Clara on March 26, 1964 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He and Kay raised 6 children and have enjoyed many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a great dad. He loved to sing and performed with the Swanee Singers (a musical group) as a tenor; he continued to enjoy music throughout his life. He enjoyed watching movies, especially old Westerns, and could watch them over and over. Dennis had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was a truck driver and worked very hard to support his family. He has endured well a long 38-year journey of physical challenges due to complications related to MS. We want to thank the medical professionals and aids that have helped Dennis along his journey. About his death he would say “It’s about damn time!”
Dennis is survived by his wife Kay, four daughters, Sherie Evans (Glenn) of Goshen, Pam Soelberg (Karl) of West Jordan, Jonna Biersdorf (Chris) of North Salt Lake, Kaylene Pace (Ralph) of Bountiful; son, Darin Hicks (Wendy) of Kaysville, and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Doug.
A graveside service was held Thursday, September, 17, 2015, at the Bountiful City Cemetery. Russon Brothers Mortuary handled the arrangements.
