Dennis Lyle Smith, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and best friend to many returned to heaven Wednesday May 3, 2017.
Born in Kemmerer, Wyoming on November 12, 1950, first son to C. Lyle and Geraldine Smith. Dennis was a “salesman” in the most honest and caring sense of the word. His thousands of customers found out right up front that he would do the very best for them he could do, and never made a promise he couldn’t keep.
A member of the Order of the Arrow, “Chief Shangaheila” was in charge of 4 scout camps from Kemmerer WY to Nebraska where he attended to National Scout Jamboree. Scouting was a major part of his life, and he earned his Eagle at the age of 14. The values scouting taught were the basis of his life.
Known as “Farmer Grandpa” to his grandchildren he spent as much of his spare time as possible in the garden. He loved to share the harvest from his garden with his friends and neighbors, and was often known for specific “crops” he handed out to everyone. He will be remembered for his object lessons in church, life and gardening.
When he wasn’t in the garden, his favorite location was any lake that he could waterski. Famous for pulling the ski boat as much as the boat pulled him, he was usually the largest guy on water-skis. Each time any of us are gliding behind the boat we will remember him.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthiann, his four children, Shane, Andrea, Brooke, and Patrick, as well as 8 grandchildren and his older sister Sherry.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted to plant "Grandpas Garden" this year. Donations may be made to J&J Nursery by calling Annette Green at 801-821-0546. You may also if you have specific memories of his garden bring vegetable plants if you wish.
A public viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Russon Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St., Farmington, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. Private family services will be held at a later time.
