Dennis Michael Koopmeiners

August 18, 1955 — November 29, 2021

Dennis passed away after 13 long years of battling rectal cancer, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease from which he was on renal (kidney) dialysis for the past 18 months.  He was at home on hospice with his family and his dog, Champion.

He was born on August 18, 1955, to Robert George Koopmeiners and Mary Jane Alice Schopf in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Dennis was born at 27 weeks with a twin sister, Denise, when his mothers appendix ruptured emergently.  He spent three months in the neonatal intensive care unit fighting for his life.  In life, he was always a fighter for everyone’s rights.

He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and married Karmella Joy Boyd on October 23, 1976.  Dennis and Karmella just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.

He was a custom stone mason and worked with his father in Wisconsin and moved with him to Florida in 1980 until he moved to Utah in 2001.

He was a father to four children:  Kristi (Jerry) McClurg (grandsons Cormac and Connor), Kevin Koopmeiners, Kyle Koopmeiners (deceased), and David Koopmeiners.

Dennis loved animals, being in nature, and gardening.  He was an avid butterfly collector.  He enjoyed football and was a faithful Green Bay Packers fan always!

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah where a viewing will be held Saturday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. prior to services.
