Dennis Wood

Biography

Dennis Ray Wood our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend ended his valiant journey upon the earth on Sept 18, 2014 at the age of 70. He gave us his final example of courage as he faced unrelenting cancer and passed away surrounded by those who love him. Dennis was born on March 14, 1944 to Rulon Samuel and Lorena Call Wood and raised in Ogden, Utah where he graduated from Ogden High School. He served faithfully in the Southern Far East, Hong Kong Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Weber State University in accounting and business and worked as an accountant and comptroller for several years. He also served his country faithfully in the National Guard. Dennis fell in love with his beautiful bride, Patricia Mecham, and they were sealed together on July 7, 1967, in the Logan Temple. Thus began their life together as they established a loving home in Ogden, Layton, Valencia (CA), and ultimately Bountiful, Utah where they raised their six children.
Dennis dedicated his life to the service of others. He served in numerous capacities for his church including three bishoprics and multiple auxiliaries. In his retired years, he served as a Bountiful Temple Ordinance Worker, volunteered as a Hospice Chaplain, became a greeter at Wal-Mart, and was a lifetime scouter earning his Wood Badge Award. He also served a mission with his sweetheart at the Heber Valley Camp in 2011-2012. Above all his noble service, Dad always loved and cared for his family first and we are forever grateful.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to Aspire Home Health and Hospice. Dennis considered it an honor to be cared for by Heather, Stacey and the hospice team in his final days.
Dennis is survived by his eternal companion Patricia Mecham Wood; his six children: Scott (Lisa) Wood, Troy (Wendy) Wood, Wendi (Steve) Snell, Heidi (Martin) Johnson, Angie Wood (Casey Murray), and Tawnie (Darin) Larson; 23 grandchildren; and his brother LaVor (Jean) Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Merle Stratford and Grant Wood.

Viewings will be held on Monday, September 22nd from 6:00-8:00 PM at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main St. and Tuesday, September 23rd from 9:30-10:30 AM at the church prior to services. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful.
