Dennis Yeates

Biography

Dennis Monson Yeates was born in Logan, UT, on November 25, 1944, the fifth child of Richard Owen Yeates and Evalyn Monson Yeates. He died August 24, 2014.
Dennis was active in the LDS Church: He served in the Northern California Mission from 1964 to 1966, including leadership positions for nineteen months, and as an Elders Quorum president, Elders Quorum and High Priests group instructor, Ward Financial Clerk, Sunday School teacher, and in many musical callings. He found joy in serving families as a home teacher and in leading the singles family home evening group for Centerville-Farmington.
Developing diabetes at age 14, Dennis had a passion for living life to its fullest, and music was always at the top of his list. Family vacations included four-part harmony in the car, and Dennis participated in musical theater in high school, college, and later in life. In the 1960s, he toured the United States and abroad, on a USO tour, as a member of The Youngtimers. Annual, and sometimes more frequent, fishing trips to Yellowstone and Montana have always been part of the Yeates boys’ life, and Dennis was thankful to brother Lynn for continuing this tradition to this day.
Dennis graduated from Logan High in 1963 and from USU in 1969, with a degree in economics. After a short musical career, Dennis began a 30 year career in banking. He started with Walker Bank, spent four years with Cache Valley Bank, which his family helped found, and 20 years with Key Bank, doing lending, branch administration, and trust administration. He was also active in the Logan Jaycees, Logan Kiwanis Club, and Centerville Rotary Club, and served three times as president of his home owners association. Dennis loved the Boy Scouts, attending National Jamborees in 1957 and 1960, and was awarded for his lifelong service to scouting. He collected memorabilia for over 50 years.
Dennis is survived by his son, Owen (Celeste), and four grandchildren, Hyrum, Claire, Joseph, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his brother Richard Lynn and his sister Sheryl Spriet. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Owen and Clayne, and sister Carole.
