Derek Justin Haney

Derek Justin Haney passed from this world on Monday, September 25, 2017. Derek was born on July 26, 1984, in Bountiful, Utah. He spent his youth cultivating his lifelong love of animals and nature, and bringing laughter and life to his siblings and friends. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 2003, and achieved a Bachelor of Arts in History from Brigham Young University. Derek has since managed the warehouse of the family company, become a favorite uncle to his twelve nieces and nephews, and assumed the role of binding his family together.

Derek was a fierce and loyal friend. He was caring and compassionate to all life. He loved rock climbing and everything outdoors. He could spend hours watching birds, or days nursing a starved stray cat or orphaned mice from the cold. He loved playing his guitar and jamming out with the amorphously-named family band. He also spent time cheering on Cougar sports and watching Ancient Aliens. Derek was someone you wanted to know, someone you wanted as your friend, and someone that was easy to love.

Derek is loved by everyone who had the privilege to know him. The hole left by his departure will never be fully filled. He will always be missed but never forgotten. Derek is predeceased by his mother, Dorothy Anne Makepeace Haney, and his older brother, Brian C. Haney. He is survived and deeply missed by his father, Marvin Haney (Claudia), and six siblings, Paula Haney, Michael Haney (Nanette), Denise Timothy (Wayne), Christopher Haney, Jason Haney (Kara), and Melanie Haney (Andy).

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West. A visitation will be held prior to the graveside from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful.
