On Thursday evening, August 25, 2016, we lost our beloved son, Derek Todd Parker. Derek was born on December 16, 1983 in Bountiful, Utah. As a child he was so full of life and imagination. As an adult he had a thirst for knowledge and a desire to teach and help those around him. He waged a valiant fight with his demons, and found his final refuge in the arms of a loving Heavenly Father.
Derek loved his family, especially his beautiful and vivacious daughter, Freya Rose, for whom he lived to please and find joy in her happiness. He loved to read to her, tell her stories, teach her and help her imagination thrive. He loved playing computer games with his brother, Justin, and Magic cards with his wife, Beverley, and other friends. He loved watching favorite shows and having deep spiritual and political discussions with his parents and siblings.
Derek graduated from San Benito High School in Hollister, California where he had many friends and fond memories. He moved back to Utah with his family in 2003. Derek served as a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps 4th LAR unit with a tour in Fallujah, Iraq in 2007-2008. He was recognized as an expert marksman and assigned to carry a SAW to support his unit in combat operations.
Derek is survived by his wife Beverley, his daughter Freya, his parents Todd and Heidi Parker, his sister Alicia Trump (Matt), his brother Justin Parker (Rikki), his sister Serena Young (Matt), his grandmother Gloria Parker, his grandfather Erik Jensen (Minola) and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him very much. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, his beloved “Mormor”, Ina Jensen, and his grandfather Stewart Parker, in whose arms we pray he has been embraced, along with many other ancestors, whom we are sure love him and welcome him home.
Funeral Services for Derek will be held on Thursday, Sept 1, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Kaysville Church located at 615 N. Flint St. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main St., Farmington and Thursday morning at the church prior to services from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Interment – Bountiful City Cemetery.
Derek didn’t have any life insurance, so for the benefit of his wife and daughter, we have set up the Derek Parker Memorial account at America First Credit Union, account #9088519. Alternatively, for online donations a fundraiser has been set up at https://www.youcaring.com/freya-parker-636088
