Dicie LaJuana Hand

February 19, 1930 — March 22, 2016

Dicie LaJuana Hand, our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in her West Valley, Utah home of natural causes related to age. She is the wife of L. Wendall Hand, to whom she was married on September 26, 1975.  LaJuana was born in Provo, Utah, and is the daughter of James Albert Godfrey and Dicie Maude Stevens.  She leaves behind her husband, L. Wendall Hand; brothers Steven Godfrey (Elaine), Clark Godfrey (Corinne); children Darwin Gary Roush (Maxine), Penni Crowther (Rick), Patti Zierse (Bill), Diane Johnson (Bob); their father Darwin Cleal Roush; stepchildren Lois Palmer (Randy), Stephen Hand (Caralee); 23 grandchildren and their spouses, and 111 great grandchildren.

Mom is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in the Church throughout her life, including time as a full-time missionary with husband Wendall in Munich, Germany; as a Church service missionary to the Escalante Branch in Salt Lake City, Utah; as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple; and in various callings in her wards and stakes, including time as the Relief Society President to her dear sisters in the Rose Park 8th Ward.

Mom loved to sing and sang with the Schubert Singers for several years, even serving as the Choir President for a time.  Prior to her retirement, she worked for the Utah State Tax Commission.  Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family.  She had a knack for making everyone she came in contact with feel loved and cared for, and her laugh was contagious.

The family sends many thanks to Peak Hospice Care and caregivers Annette, Jessica, Maria, and Mike, for all their support and care during this difficult time.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3450 South 6400 West, West Valley City, Utah.  Following the funeral, internment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the ward, In addition, family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM prior to the service on Saturday.  Online guestbook available at www.russonmortuary.com
