Our sweet mother, Dixie Pearl (Dansie) Jensen, passed away at home in the early hours of September 29, 2018. She was 89 years old. She faced a long battle with cancer with her positive attitude and expressions of gratitude to everyone who helped her.
Dixie was born May 2, 1929 in Salt Lake City, UT, the first child of Julian and Ruby Dansie. After her mother’s death, when Dixie was eight years old, she was given the gift of another mother, Lyona, who helped raise her.
Lyona and Julian had six children, so together their family was complete with eight children. Dixie was always grateful for her brothers and sisters.
Dixie graduated from Granite High School in 1947, then attended the University of Utah. She graduated from the “U” in 1951 with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in music. After teaching elementary school for several years, Dixie decided to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was called to the Northwestern States Mission and served from June 1954 to December 1955.
Dixie met her husband, Dave, at an ice skating party organized by a singing group (Sacra Dulsa) that they both belonged to. After 8 months of courtship, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 26, 1957. They have four children: Richard, Brad, Julianne and Jill.
Dixie enjoyed the friendships she developed over years with her wonderful neighbors and in her involvement with the Ladies of Altiora club, the Up and Out Group, the Literature group and the Conference Center Couples.
After Dave retired, Dixie and Dave decided to serve a mission together.
They were called to the California Oakland Temple Visitor’s Center. In addition to sharing the gospel, Dixie enjoyed getting to know and love the younger sister missionaries serving at the visitor’s center.
Dixie served faithfully throughout her life in various church callings, including Primary, Relief Society and Young Womens, and found service to be a great blessing in her life.
Dixie loved people. She was sweet and kind to everyone. Her favorite hobbies included family, friends, and decorating. Dixie’s pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Having family around was always very special to our mother. She loved family gatherings of any kind, especially when it included eating homemade ice cream on the back deck. Family vacations at Bear Lake, watching the grandchildren slide down the giant slip-n-slide in their front yard, and Family Home Evenings were always highlights in her life. Dixie was never happier than when her family was gathered around her. Dixie and Dave lived together in their beautiful Centerville home for 57 years. She is survived by her husband, David L. Jensen; four children, Richard (Roslyn) Jensen, Brad (Susan) Jensen, Julianne Brady, Jill (Ron) Mortensen; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; and siblings, Alvin (Linda) Dansie, Donette (Mark) Flandro, Charles (Carol) Dansie, LeGrand (Joyce) Dansie, Jane (Dennis) Crandall, Mike (Joyce) Dansie, and Nina (Frank) Henderson.
Special thanks to Mariur Cardenas, the Comfort WoRx Hospice team, and our wonderful nurse, Carol, and aide, Joe.
