Dr. Don Clifton Wood, 92 passed away in Sandy, Utah on July 6, 2015 peacefully in his sleep.
He was born March 25, 1923, in Farmington, Utah to Clifton B. Wood and Iva Smith Wood. He attended Davis county schools, graduating from Davis High School. Don graduated with a bachelors and masters degree from Brigham Young University and a PhD from Cornell University. Don joined the Marine Corps in March 1942. Following his 4 year service, he married Verna Geneal Lundgreen March 21, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. After 45 years of happy marriage Geneal died from cancer. On June 18, 1993, Don married Wanda Lambourne Moore. He and Wanda were married for 17 wonderful years before her passing in October 2010.
Don was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in numerous callings, including bishop of the Val Verda Ward in Bountiful, Stake President in Portland, Oregon and Tampa Florida and as President of the Northwestern States Mission. He served as a temple ordinance worker and sealer in the Salt Lake City, Jordan River, Tongan and Atlanta temples. He also served as Patriarch of the Millcreek Stake.
He spent 21 years in academia teaching and doing medical research. He later accepted new challenges in industry serving as vice president of marketing for Medlab, in Salt Lake City and project director for Compucare, in Florida. He then returned to Salt Lake City as one of the founding officers functioning as Senior Vice President and director of marketing at ARUP.
Don is survived by his brother, Paul Wood, sister, LaRue Wood Francis, brother-in-law Don Jardine; and 4 children, Diana Wood Abbott, Jeffrey D. Wood (Patricia), Julianne Wood Felshaw (John), Marcus C. Wood (Diane); 21 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneal and his second wife Wanda; daughter, Paula Wood Hyde and son-in-law Brent Hyde; and son-in-law Garth Abbott. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifton and Iva Wood and sister, Carol Wood Jardine; brother-in-law Rell Francis and sister-in-law Carolyn Wood.
Funeral services will be held July 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the LDS Millcreek Stake Center, 4200 South 420 East, Salt Lake City. There will be a viewing at 11:00 a.m., prior to funeral services. Interment will be in the Farmington City Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund or the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
