Don Lorry Olson, age 91, passed away on April 8, 2021 in Bountiful Utah.
Don was born in Salt Lake City, UT on March 18, 1930 to Lorenzo Edward Olson and Ivy Deon Nethercott. He grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. As a young man he served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Stockholm Sweden. He married Marilyn Louise Snow in 1952, They had five children. She is deceased. He married Carolyn Turner in 1980. She is deceased. He married Sheron Rae Eckersell in 1991. She is deceased. Sheron and Don made their home in Bountiful.
Don had a beautiful singing voice and also played the violin. He graduated from the University of Utah in Engineering. He worked on the Saturn V rocket that help the United States reach the moon in the 1960s. He retired from Hill Air Force Base where he worked on the F-16 fighter jet for many years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a deep love for the gospel and his Savior Jesus Christ. He often shared his strong testimony of the gospel with his family and friends. He also had a great love of family history and helped many in tracing their family roots.
Don is survived by his brothers, Ronald Harry Olson and Carl Edward Olson: Children; Kevin Olson, David (Victoria) Olson, Cherstene Olson, Jennifer Olson, Jonathan Olson, Ron (Janet) Muncey, Marilyn (Dale Tortorich) Muncey, Colleen (Todd) Jones, Roger (Jill) McKenzie; 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Preceded in death by his parents, Sister Arlene Deon Olson Thayn, Step daughter Susan Clarece Penman and her husband Steve Penman.
A viewing will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Orchard 6th Ward Church, 3599 S. Orchard Dr, Bountiful, UT. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. Bountiful, UT. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
Our family wishes to thank the staff, and nurses of Barton Creek – ALF and Aspire Home Health and Hospice for their tender care of our father over the last few weeks.
