Don Marlowe Millward passed on to man’s next stage, after many, many birthdays, in the early hours of Dec. 30th 2024. He entered this mortal existence as the first of 5 sons born to H. Marlowe and Eva Jensen Millward on June 14, 1928 in Los Angeles, California.
The first years of his life were spent in California. However, his school days were divided between schools in Salt Lake City and Grantsville, Utah. Don’s high school years were primarily at East High School in Salt Lake, he graduated from Grantsville High School in 1945 a year in advance of his former Grantsville classmates. For the next three years he ate dust as an employee of Utah Lime and Stone. Deciding this was not to be his career, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and after serving two ‘hitches’ was discharged in 1953. The majority of his military service was spent as an air traffic controller, first in Atlantic City, New Jersey and then on Guam during the Korean Conflict.
After his discharge Don returned to Grantsville, met and married Alice Johnston and they became the parents of five children. During this time Don, using his training from the Navy, gained employment with the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller. This adventure took them to Roswell, New Mexico, Ontario, California and eventually to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Shortly after returning to Utah Don and Alice divorced. Following a period of bachelorhood Don met and married Kathryn (Jackie) Cameron, with whom he spent many years exploring Utah, fishing, and rock hounding. Don made some fantastic jewelry with his rock ‘finds’. Don also became interested and then deeply involved with Free Masonry eventually becoming a 32nd degree and the Grandmaster of his lodge. With the exception of the past few weeks, Don has maintained his relationship with his colleagues through their Friday breakfast meetings. Hence maintaining the world balance and averting major disasters.
Don retired from the F.A.A. in 1985. At the time of his retirement he was a liaison between the F.A.A. and the S.L.C. Airport Authority. His wife, Jackie, succumbed to cancer in 1998 and Don rejoined bachelorhood and remained a member until his surrender to age.
Don is survived by his daughters, Donna (Troy) Sibert, Jennifer Langston, and stepson John Cameron, 25 grand or step grandchildren and numerous great grand and step great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; Lynn, Brent, and Byron, children; Warren, Michael, and Annamarie, step-daughter, Kathryn, step-son, Lee, and great granddaughter, Aryanna.
