Don Owen Warner

Don Owen Warner, our dear father and friend, died peacefully at home on the evening of his 90th birthday, Monday, January 9, 2017. To those privileged to know and love him, he will be remembered as one who sought earnestly and succeeded consistently in doing good, as well as in being good.

Don was born in Fillmore, Utah, to Harvey Owen Warner and Eva Wade Warner on January 9, 1927. He felt blessed to be raised in a loving home and close-knit community where he learned the values of hard work and cherished relationships. His school years were happy as he made many life-long friends and participated actively in academics, sports, and student leadership. Immediately after graduation from Millard High School in 1945, he served in the US Army in Italy during WWII, from May of 1945 to January 1947. In May of 1947 be began serving as a full-time missionary in the LDS Central States Mission. He served for a time without purse or script and was obedient and hard-working in all things. In the spring of 1953, he graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He used the many life skills he had developed over the years to work as a general contractor and as well as a professional school teacher in the Davis School District. In every arena in which he labored, he was known as a most ethical and hard worker.

Don married Darlene Robins in December of 1949 and divorced in July 1958. The union was blessed with three precious children. He married Ellen Elizabeth Warner on July 10, 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple – a wonderful love story! He was devoted to his family and was always working and sacrificing for the good of each member.

Don lived his life as a true believer. He felt so blessed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served faithfully wherever he was called, including as bishop of the Bountiful 37th Ward. He had a great desire to serve others which he constantly did. Whether it was plumbing, roofing, or providing a blessing, he was there. This devotion to serve was hallmarked in his service to his dearest Ellen as her health declined and who he has so missed since her passing in May 2016. Don and Ellen were known as a couple that exemplified kindness, not only to each other, but to those they met as they ran errands and made their way through everyday life.

Don is survived by Elliott (Susan), Emily Barlow (Bruce), Susan Olsen (Rick), Dennis (Janet), Doug (Char), Laurel Palmer (Gaylen), and Dwight Warner. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Nielsen (Terry).

A service honoring his memory will be held at Bountiful 37th Ward, 1540 N. 400 E., Bountiful, UT, on Monday, January 16, 2017, at 11:00 AM.   Viewings will be held: Sunday, January 15th from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, UT and Monday, January 16th from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Bountiful 37th Ward. Interment will be in Bountiful City Cemetery.
