Donald David Anderson, age 86, passed away peacefully in his home on October 4, 2014, surrounded by family.
Dad was born June 23, 1928, in Marinette, Wisconsin, to Oscar Anderson and Beatrice (Cox) Anderson, and was the grandson of Swedish immigrants. He moved at an early age, with his family, to Livermore Falls, Maine, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1946. He received a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine. In that same year, he entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After basic training, he was assigned to the Chemical Corps and spent most of the two-year assignment at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah.
After discharge from the service, he married Evelyn Gough of Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary and are the parents of eight children: Charles and Becky (Carlson); Nathan (deceased) and Karen (Wiscombe); David Anderson; James and Michelle Anderson; John and Sarah Anderson; Dale and Kristine (Buys); Eric and Amy Anderson; and John and Amy (Kelsch). He is also survived by his brother Keith Anderson of Castleton, NY; sister, Eileen (Secrist) of Sanibel, FL; 28 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
After marriage, Dad and Mom moved to upstate New York where they resided until 1971. It was in New York where all of their children were born. While there, Dad was employed and rose through the ranks of International Paper Company to become resident manager of their Hudson River Mill in Corinth. Dad was transferred to division headquarters in Mobile, Alabama, in 1971. In 1978, Dad left International Paper and began working for Weyerhauser as he helped design, build, staff, and start a new paper mill (Norpac) in Longview, Washington. He held the position of mill manager until he retired in 1991.
Dad was well known in the paper industry, having served as chairman of its paper making committee in TAPPI (Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry) and also chairman of the paper and board division.
Dad and Mom served as Guest Service Missionaries for four years at Temple Square.
Dad was well liked by all who knew him. He placed family first and was a loving and devoted husband to his beloved wife, Evelyn. He had many accomplishments in life, but what we will always remember him for is his humor; integrity; patience; happiness; meticulous yard and garden; and love of family, the gospel, this country, and the game of golf.
