Donald Ray Blasongame Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family on February 25, 2014.
Don was born August 16, 1934 to Raymond Cornelious Blasongame and Iva Pauline Armstrong in Banning, California and was the youngest of three children. His father worked as a superintendent with a company constructing tunnels and moved often for his work. At the age of six the family moved to Colorado where Don learned to ski and dreamed of becoming an Olympic Ski jumper. In 1949 the family moved to Kamas, Utah where his Dad worked on the Duchesne tunnel and Don attended South Summit High School where he lettered in Basketball, Football, and Track and Field. Following High School he spent the summer working for his Dad in Alaska. He returned to Kamas in August of 1953 to play in a North/South all-star football game. It was at this time he met and started dating Beverly Meservy. Two weeks later he left to attend the University of Colorado on a full football scholarship. From there he joined the Air Force and served in Korea and Japan. He married Beverly Meservy on June 6, 1955 in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they had three children, Don Jr., Launa and John. He graduated from BYU with a major in Physical Education and taught school in Provo for five years before moving his family to Alaska in 1968. He taught at Wendler Jr. High School until he retired in 1985. He and Beverly moved back to Utah in November1992 to be closer to family. Don had an inventor’s mind, thinking outside the box and could always come up with a better way to do even simple things. He had a unique sense of humor and anyone who saw his magic act could never forget it.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife, children, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Beverly (Carl) Bonomo and sister-in-law Opal Blasongame.
