Donald Marion Polson
Donald Marion Polson, 85, passed away on March 4, 2011 at the VA Hospital. Don was born October 4, 1925 to Arthur E. and Myrtle M. Dickerson Polson in Los Angeles, California. He married Virginia Rose Smith on August 26, 1950 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1998. Don is survived by his two daughters Sarah Elaine Peters (James S.) of Sandy, UT and Georgia Lynn Wiley (Gerry) of West Valley City, UT; grandchildren Jaime Lynn Peters Thomas (Marc) of Hamden, CT, Donald Brett Peters of Portland, OR, Jason Duane Wiley (Cassandra) of Salt Lake City, UT, Jessica Rose Wiley Cleaver (Jeremy) of Seattle, WA, and Melissa Dawn Wiley of Salt Lake City, UT; four great grandchildren and sister Nelda Peterson of Murray, UT. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia, his parents, one grandson, Michael James Peters, twin sister Dorma Thornblad, and Brothers, Arthur William Polson and Ted Polson. As a young man attending Jordan High School, he was captain of both the football and basketball teams. He led both teams to the State Championship game and his football trophy is still on display at Jordan High School. Don was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Forces as a radio mechanic. He worked for M & M Distributing for over 20 years with a perfect attendance record. Don enjoyed the simple things in life: spending time with his family and his loyal dog, Jiggers, an animal that he rescued from an abusive situation. They were inseparable. Don was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, provider, and good friend who enjoyed serving and helping others. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Don was very resourceful, self-sufficient, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others and building things with his hands. He was a man of few words, but he chose them carefully and was very honest, forthright, and witty. His memory will be honored by family and friends at funeral services on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment with be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South in Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Humane Society of Utah.
