Doreen L. Barnes passed away in her loving granddaughter’s arms the morning of October 13, 2017. Doreen was born June 2, 1931 in Leigh, Lancashire England. Doreen retained that accent throughout her life and was often referred to as that “lovely little British crumpet”.
Doreen loved her family with all of her heart. There was nothing she would not do for them and they know that no one loved them more. Her daughter, Dorian Lisa (Todd) survives her. While Doreen always believed that her greatest accomplishment was her daughter, nothing could match her excitement when her grandson Iain was born and she was the first person to hold him after his parents. Two years later, her joy was complete when Iain’s sister Lindsey arrived and, again, she was right there. Doreen spent countless hours with her grandchildren, dressing up in silly costumes, playing games, taking them on trips. She loved them deeply and wanted nothing more but for them to be happy.
Doreen was always happy and smiling – so much so that sometimes you wondered what was wrong with her! There was nothing wrong, that was just who she was. She talked to everyone, all the time, and just made people happy with her very presence.
Doreen was in the travel industry all of her life. She had been everywhere and seen everything. In her later years, she decided that the senior citizens in her neighborhood should get out more and see things too, which led to Senior Tours. For 18 years, Doreen took busloads and planeloads of active seniors to Moab, Yellowstone, Colorado, Branson, Hawaii and many more. She enriched hundreds of people’s lives and made lasting friendships.
Doreen specifically requested that we have no funeral and no flowers be sent. She wanted everyone to spend their money on more trips and just remember her the way she was, laughing, smiling, telling the silliest jokes and being the best tour guide in the world.
