Dorothy Ann Nelson Bradley

Our dear wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in Clinton, Utah due to causes incident to age. We are confident her reunion with loved ones who have previously passed away is glorious, delightful, and wonderful!

Dorothy was born in the home of her parents, Elijah Raymond Nelson and Annie Christine Hansen Nelson, in Pleasant Grove, Utah on 10 January 1928. She was raised as one of three children in a loving home and setting that she often described as idyllic. She was noticed in her community at a young age, being selected at age six to reign as “Strawberry Days” Queen during Pleasant Grove’s annual celebration.

Fortuitously, during fourth grade, her future eternal sweetheart, Hyrum Emerson Bradley, Jr., moved to Pleasant Grove and became her classmate. He chased her incessantly at recess because (he said) he liked to watch her curls bounce when she ran. He also said she had the most delightful scream when he caught her. They had a “catch and release” policy in those days.

After graduation from high school she attended the Utah Agricultural College (now known as Utah State) in Logan, Utah. When Hy returned from the Navy after World War II, he was delighted to discover that she was still unfettered by marriage, and he felt motivated to immediately marry her to preclude any unforeseen and unworthy rivals from attempting to steal her away. He quickly convinced her the days of “catch and release” had passed, and two months later they went to the Salt Lake LDS Temple to be sealed for time and eternity.

Hy’s work moved him often, and they lived in four states (some states numerous times). Everywhere they lived, they made cherished lifelong friendships.

Dorothy had a sure testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and faithfully served in many capacities, including temple assignments and missionary service. But her favorite and most devoted service was in her divine role as wife and mother. By choice and delight she was a stay-at-home mom. She and Hy have four children: Scott (Tamara), North Logan, Utah; Guy (deceased); Kirk (Rosa), Arvada, Colorado; and Lorraine “Lorrie” (Logan) Stapley, Kaysville, Utah. To date, they have 15 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Russon Funeral Home at 1941 N. Main St. in Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the Fruit Heights First Ward at 901 South Mountain Road in Fruit Heights, Bishop Mike Burnett conducting. A viewing will be held from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church before the service. Interment will follow at the Farmington City Cemetery.
